After Game Informer interviewed Valve today, shocking news was revealed about the company's financial state. According to the founder of ValvE software, Gabe Newell, he said "Many of our past choices has affected our progress of development of such games as Half Life 3 due to insufficient funding." Most people would believe a company like this would be successful for years to come. However making Team Fortress 2 free to play did not turn out like they anticipated. ValvE originally hoped that most of the revenue from Team fortress 2 would come from the sales of in-game novelty items such as hats, but the phase has slowly died, causing ValvE to make certain cut backs in their funding.
ValvE has also recently announced "The Steam Box" a console designed by ValvE software which is supposedly meant to create a revolution in modern video gaming. Unfortunately this has also set valve back millions of dollars, after the discovery of a flaw in the system that causes the chips to fry.
If all this wasn't bad enough, ValvE has declared bankruptcy shortly after the recent Holiday sales. Dario Casali says that "Valve has not made a sufficient Profit from these sales, as the prices were made too cheap."
What does this means for us Steam users? There is a possibility we could not be purchasing games of Steam as of February this year. The fate of what will happen to the current games we own is unknown.
