Rockcock64 does another serious review

i love rockcock64's serious reviews, his indie gaming rant was fucking spot on
modern indie games blow
Interesting sentiment around 8:30, I find it applies to pretty much any medium.
"Fez is an indie game" *Review ends*
:v:

is pretty much what I think any time I see 8/16 bit sidescrolling indie games that modestly try to become the next big thing
just about every indie game i see is a shitty uninteresting platformer trying to be artistic which end up parodying each other
only indie games i have liked so far are breath of death and cthulhu saves the world
"No work of art is complete without funny internet jokes!"
They should seriously start making serious reviews only, would make review sites such as IGN look like absolute shit with no idea how to rate a video game.
Well shit, I didn't know they did serious reviews. What games have they given serious reviews so far?

9.5/10 Post of the Year.

Minecraft. Look it up, it's really objective and decent.
I love their outro. I sit through it everytime. Reminds me of the old SEGA ads from the 90's
I actually agree with them; these days the indie genre is used as an excuse to have bad graphics in games. Every popular indie game that comes out these days have retro-style graphics.
09:20
"That's why you have all these indie games that all look the same with retro style big pixel graphics... which end up just being jokes"
He says while showing a clip of VVVVVV.
Really? I thought VVVVVV was a game that DID capture the old-style difficulty, while losing stupid checkpoint placement that plagued those games. Why is he calling it a joke? Because it has 'retro style graphics'? I'm quite sure many 'indie' game devs use older styles because it makes the game a manageable project for small teams.
EDIT: Not to mention the game has some sweet as music, something else he criticised FEZ for lacking.
Also, has anyone here played FEZ?
HNNGGG I can't stop agreeing!

it's fustrating

indie games haven't been popular long enough for them to be anything but modern
[editline]19th April 2012[/editline]
hell video games as a medium have barely been around long enough to have a 'modern' catagory
also when did facepunch grow a vendetta against indie games
Wait wait wait, where was that "portal 2" footage from that looked interesting.
Also i disagree completely about the modern indie games not being challenging. Wtf about super meat boy?
why the fuck did he call VVVVVV out?
If any indie game that was trying to capture old school retro games did it right, it was VVVVVV.
Even though the guy in that video makes valid points, it's kind of ironic calling out "gimmicky" gameplay when you are part of one of those "I hate all popular games so I must be cool" gimmick websites/youtube channels.
maybe i don't play enough indie games but are faux-retro games really that common?
[editline]19th April 2012[/editline]
I have never liked indie games. Most of them just try to be retro and shit or some of them are just flash games, yet they get high reviews and dimwit fanboys to defend them all the time. Whenever I try to tell my opinion, I get yelled at.
This is why I love TheBestGamers, they yell back.
maybe they get high reviews and people defend them because they're good?
i'm all for personal opinion but calling people dimwits because they like something you don't is mad narrow minded
I call them dimwits because they yell at me for voicing my opinion and blindly defend their favourite game and their favourite developer, no matter what happens. No matter what. Minecraft's fanbase is a good example of such dimwits.
You're wrong. I hold Notch in very high contempt because he's taken Minecraft in an awful direction recently, because he has no idea how to run a company. I'm glad he's stepped down to work on other things because he was about to run the game right into the ground by making it into what he wanted instead of what he thought the people who played it wanted, which is what Minecraft was always all about before its 'full' release, and I'm one of the first couple hundred buyers of the damn thing. I love the game and enjoy it but the graphics style does not make it pretentious or indie nor does the gameplay; the fact that Mojang was founded out of one person turning into multiple people is what makes it indie, if using a term like that is even fair play for describing video games anymore.
I want to go on a rant about why I dislike the "I hate popular games so I must be cool and edgy" gimmick youtube reviewers have been doing:
The reason I don't like these kinds of channels is because all they do is say how much they hate modern indie games(Like every other channel that does the exact same bullshit) that everyone likes, even those that are genuinely good(Bastion, Super Meat Boy, VVVVVVV etc.) in an attempt to be separate from the norm or the "popular" opinion, attempting be "original" or "witty" they are actually being much more unoriginal and very unfunny because the shit they are doing is dime a dozen. There are literally thousands of people doing the same thing, coming in before and after. Don't tell me it's "satire", satire actually means being smart and bold, to do something that isn't in an obvious sense funny but is funny in context. What these channels do is neither smart or original since it's been done before by every other jack off with a steam account and screen capturing equipment, it's been done so much that it's just plain unfunny.

TBG is mostly satire, they have only a few legit reviews.
I really don't like RockCock. All of the reviews I've seen him do have been incredibly opinionated.
TBG is mostly satire, they have only a few legit reviews.
I am aware, I also know that they point out some legitimate flaws on games(Minecraft, this Fez review) and I know what they are trying to do, But it's just unfunny now because, as I said, it's been done before by several people and even then it was funny the first time then it just stopped being funny.
I agree that most indie games do this shitty retro look all the time.
But you have to see it from there side of things, these indies dont have a budget and usually arnt getting paid to make there game, they dont have these teams of people that can make great looking 3D engines or good models or even pay for licences so they are sort of forced to do these 8/16/32 bit games because it doesnt require nearly as much work or expertise.
Plus I dont think they want to invest any time into mastering something like UDK.

Maybe they could try something unique?
