And here is the top 20, if anyone's interested.

EDIT: They place UAE in the top 20 happiest places, but when I was there porn was banned, so how does that work out.
A lot of these make sense to me due to war/unrest/economic instability, but I was quite surprised to see things are so bad in Cyprus. Is the Greek/Turkish divide really causing that much unhappiness?
Happiest Country in the World Award goes to... Democratic People's Republic of Korea!

Yes, the economy makes everything really unstable too.
Imagine how you would feel when the everyday situation is always intense and ontop of that you can barely keep your family afloat.

Not hard to get porn with a proxy. That's what everyone does; it's a farce.

Who did they actually ask in the UAE though? The Royal Family? Other rich-as-fuck people?

Check the first link. They show how they made the study.

Looking at the study, it includes only 18+ Emiratis and Arab Expats. Non-Arab excluded. More than half of adult pop excluded. If they are interviewing such a specific group, I can see why they are so happy.
So pretty much those who will feel miserable in UAE (migrants workers from India, Pakistan, Philippines...) are excluded. I agree that these migrant workers should be excluded. They are not Emiratis, they are just here to work and once their contract is up, they are gone. Including them would just distort the data.
Speaking of UAE, UAE just introduced compulsory military services.

Still, given UAE's wealth, I assume the conscripts will be well equipped and well trained. Also, UAE citizens only have to serve 9 months (yeah, 9 months) if they have a high school diploma, 2 years if they don't (why would you NOT have a high school diploma?). Also, their training is probably not going to be like USMC tough. "Military service will include training periods, military exercises and lectures on patriotism and security." So they are just there to get trained and not do any actual serving...
But still, since UAE got so much money, can't they just hire PMCs to be their army? I know Erik Prince is consulting in UAE and building a small force, but still, can't Mr. Prince build an even BIGGER force?
Aaaaand Denmark is at the top again it seems. I'm not sure why we keep getting there, but that's probably just me.
Maybe the banning of porn led to people seeking meaningful relationship which accrued more happiness in the adult populace.
#9 happiest country is Honduras?
I doubt that. My mom went there last Christmas and it was pretty bad. It has the highest murder rate in world at the moment.

Private military contractors are not mercenaries.
PMC's differ from mercenaries in that, generally speaking, they do not engage in offensive action. They do so to avoid being declared unlawful combatants. By strictly remaining defensive they do not fill the same roll in a conflict that mercenaries would. Though they can certainly help a great deal all the same.

I love how there is no data on North Korea
iran's is ruled by a guy who outright hates music, even his cellmate from before the revolution in 79, said he already hated music, and would complain when he started to sing a song to pass the time, telling him to pray instead, believes that laughing goes against islam, i mean... i would be surprised if people are actually happy there.

It's like Roller Coaster Tycoon. You kill off the unhappy people so everyone is happy.

All the unhappy people are dead.
Other than the fact that they basically have major terrorism groups practically controlling the countries, I can't see a reason for it...

plus, a lot of the youth in iran are also pretty unsatisfied with their government, and the youth makes up about 50% of their population.
Suicide bombers are just depressed people who want to go out remembered for something?
