Modern "Limited/Collectors Edition" things piss me off royally

I cant be the only one that hates these things with a passion.
Firstly - Limited/Collectors editions used to be worth getting. It was either a small difference (such as different gamepak colours for gameboy/N64 games) for a small amount of money, or a huge difference/loads of extra shit for a large amount of money. For example, one my of my favorite CE things ever, the Heroes of Might and Magic Collectors Pack:

More pics at http://www.nakoko.com/heroes-of-might-and-magic-complete-edition_7733 Anyway, here is what it has:
Heroes of Might and Magic I to V + all expansions
Tarot Cards
T-Shirt (extra large :v: )
4 discs containing game soundtrack/documentaries/interviews with the developers
Huge poster containing all units and their stats
All manuals for the games
2 swag-as-hell flip cases for the discs/manuals
Art book for V + expansions
+more which I forget about...
I got all that in 2007 for just under 100 bucks. Seriously, if you like TBS games, buy this and love it. Many places still have this, my local walmart has them for 50 bucks.
Now, lets look at today's LE/CE shit:
Skyrim:

150 bucks gets you the 60 dollar game, a cloth map and an arguably low quality statue. Oh boy. There are numerous others I could list, but I think you all already know about them.
And its not just videogames. Every industry has useless LE/CE shit that no one will buy.
A paintball example. This is the TM-15, it is a popular scenario/woodsball paintball marker. If you know where to shop and are in the know, it will cost you anywhere from $300 to $400. It is an all-around good piece of equipment, I have borrowed one from a squaddie numerous times.

Now, here is the "TM-15 LE".

The shroud has been chopped down (which most TM-15 owners do anyway 'cause it is obnoxiously long) and they replaced the stock barrel (which is extremely good on the TM-15, best stock barrel on a mid range marker, arguably the only "silenced" one on the market) with a $60 Apex2 barrel (which is the most gimmicky and useless shit in paintball. Everyone that buys it usually finds out it is stupid, and sells it on to the next chump). Those 2 changes, + different colors and "TM-15" written on the tip makes it worth $550 dollars. What. For $550, I expect it to at least come with a decent electric hopper, maybe even a remote line for Christs sake. [/paintballchat]
tl;dr limited/collectors editions nowadays do not contain much and cost too much for what you physically get.
I do agree that LE/CEs these days are pretty lackluster. Dead Island's was pretty good, as was Witcher 2's. But others are just terrible.
Paintball chat beneath:

However I don't see the point in a 400 dollar woodsball marker when you could just buy an EGO9, which is built like a tank and have it work just as well if not better.

Paintball:
[sp]Alot of people, such as myself, just like the milsim look. I feel stupid using a tiny marker that's all bright red and shit. I own a Tippmann X7 Phenom and a TM-7, by the way. Also a Tiberius 8 pistol, but I am looking to sell it[/sp]
Paintball does alot of limited edition stuff, mostly anno jobs. Planet Eclipse, Dye do it the most. In paintball, guns really hold their value, so a $450 gun can be sold a year later for $340. Limited edition stuff hold their value well, so in case you want to resell it. You dont suffer much of a loss.
Also, the apex barrel works well, I had the original fat ones a few years back, and it did give me a bit of an advantage

It's all about preference, some people like to haul around heavy tippmanns or bt's. They like it, fine by me. I'll stick to my lighter speedball set-up

The TM7 is pretty light, its basically all plastic, weighs about the same as a mini methinks. Same internals too.
TBH, I usually only use the Phenom when I am doing a heavy gunner/support role (my field has a semi-tactical woodsball league and it rocks).
heh, I should make a paintball megathread. Any fper's who play pb; pm a pic of you playing and your current set-up, so i can post it in the op
Fuck now I wish I actually had a camera. Was gonna buy a sweet ass camera, but then I bought a TM7 with the money.
when the fuck did this become a paintball thread?
Also i'm buying the skryim edition BECAUSE I WANT IT.

Also i don't see why you're complaining.
"I DON'T LIKE A SPECIAL EDITION OF A GAME THAT I COMPLETELY DON'T HAVE TO BUY AND COULD INSTEAD JUST BUY THE GAME ARARJHS GFKLADHSGDSFG"
They may be too expensive, but they're still pretty damn cool.
Especially that Skyrim one.
Althrough it is good, it's not worth shedding out 150 dollars for a plastic dragon and a map.
I got plenty of dosh to spend on games coming out so i'm buying literally because i can.
I only own the MGS4 Collectors Edition, and the Spore Collectors edition. The collector's edition that I am really interested in right now is the Uncharted 3 set. You get a good quality Nathan Drake figure, the famous ring on a lanyard with the inscription from the game "Greatness from small beginnings", you get the belt buckle from the new game (Drake wears a different one in each game), and the fancy steelbook game. I think that's a cool collection.
Everything is limited edition, it's not like everything you buy will be produced forever.
The Fallout New Vegas CE came with tons of cool shit like a full deck of poker cards that each has a special character/faction on them, an amazing hardcover art book, replica poker chips of all the major in game casinos, a making of DvD, and a replica Platinum Chip.
For only 70 dollars. That's only 10-20 more for all that shit and its a damn good deal.
But you don't have to buy the CE edition and spend the extra 20 bucks. You can just buy the normal one and get the game, just like any other CE. There's no point in complaining. The pre-order and Collector's Edition things are meant for true fans of the series who are willing to pay extra money to the company to get something extra for themselves.
I don't know shit about paintball and don't ever plan to, though.
Oh and a low quality statue?

Look how big this shit is.

seems like a very pointless and insignificant thing to spend so much hate on
there are far better things to hate
I feel like getting the bioshock 2 collectors edition shit because it was about 100+ dollars new but nobody brought them so they're about 30 bucks now at my local store :]
As with most things though, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Eg the skyrim one, some people just really fucking like statues :v:
That is what i'm saying.
If you just want the game, buy the game. Don't complain about the collectors edition if you don't want it or care enough about it. While i agree skyrim's is over priced, i still think it's worth it for the game alone.
Although i REALLY wish they'd include the soundtrack.

A notable exception - glad I bought it.
I like my Bioshock one, was worth 10 €. But things like CoD that come with a 10 $ rc car and stuff like that are really just bullshit.

I wish i could rate you winner twice, i couldn't agree more.
The fallout collector's editions were awesome, I'm glad I own them both.
Fable 3 had a decent collector's edition too, came with a very awesome looking case plus that morality coin thing and a card deck (the deck wasnt as high quality as Fallout's though.). Also came with a handful of in game content.

Bioshock 2's collector's edition was ridiculously awesome as well, came with 3 posters, an art book, a vinyl fucking record and the soundtrack, plus an awesome case. I really wish I could have gotten it
Big Daddy statue would be awesome to own too from the first one
You get extra nerde points for collecting game stuff limited/collectors edition stuff.

Holy shit I LOVE artbooks for games, brb going to the store on Monday to buy a copy of this
(That might of sounded sarcastic but I'm dead serious :v:)
Also, I was looking through my sisters DVDs, and she has some collectors edition box sets she paid 20-30 dollars extra for, and what did she get with them? NOTHING it just has "collectors edition" written on the top of the cover :|
The Halo Reach black box was pretty awesome IMO.

It looks stupid if you're not dressing up with the same theme as the gun.
With my small "bright red and shit" i can easily kick the dick of woodsballplayers if i decide to throw meself into woodball (which is pretty rare because i play on millenium stages)
This one was pretty worth it:

Really dig that awesome art book.
Gears of war 3/Every Halo game has the best lt. eds.
I mean just look at this:

Any collector's edition that comes with a little book is almost always awesome.
The Deus Ex Human Revolution collector's edition was pretty good for its price, though I only managed to get the augmented edition because the collector's edition was sold out everywhere :(
