A close source from the police confirms that the mayor of Zagreb,Milan Bandić has been apprehended by the police forces on Sunday afternoon.
Alongside Bandić, co-CEO of CIOS waste disposal and recycling corporation, Petar Pripuz, as well as the president of public infrastructure firm Zagreb Holding, Slobodan Ljubičić Kikan, have also been arrested.
As we have found out from the police, multiple individuals have been apprehended as a part of an ongoing investigation, handled by the police administration, USKOK, and the State Attorney Office, about illegal actions conducted in the City of Zagreb and Zagreb Holding.

For the people uneducated on the subject: This is some big shit right here.
The trio in the picture are some of the most entrenched people involved in government corporations and administration as a whole.
It was assumed for years that Bandić was abusing his position as a mayor to create a personality cult and to mask embezzlement with it.
Zagreb Holding is the most important infrastructure corporation in the capital, and as a government asset it constantly came under fire for being a massive money drain despite getting little things done.
CIOS is a major player in the ecological aspect of the country, involved in collecting scrap metal and vehicles, disposal and recycling of waste, and there's a good chance that they've been using connections with Bandić in order to handle the disposal issues that have existed in the city for several years now.
Just the three individuals handle up to three billion USD in government funding, mind you.
Nice.
I just hope that this can be finished and gone through.

Considering Merzel got arrested and had her status as a county prefect of Sisak-Moslavina revoked a few months ago over less things, there's quite a lot more under the hood, and quite a lot more punishment to be carry out.
This is worse as well; a yearly budget of three billion USD is a huge amount of money when it comes to government funding, and it's very much possible they've been laundering millions for years now.
Wait, the mayor's trying to build a cult of personality?
Is the first guy the Dean from Community.

He has a huge PR team taking pictures and videos of him exercising with his dog. He fabricated an entire ecological garden in his house in the middle of the city, and constantly invites people to look at the "effort" he puts into it. He's known for pulling too many funds into election campaigns, and a variety of people had a tendency to show up and shill for him in public every time he came under fire over a controversy. When the issue of homelessness was brought up he got a PR team to pick up a homeless man with him and drive him on-camera to the sanctuary on the outskirts.
There's a multitude of other shit involved, but if there's some way to gain publicity from it, Bandić will show up and tell the national news reporters what you want to hear.
This is a great day for Hrvatska.
Here's a newsflash from the same article:
21:08 - PNUSKOK investigators have entered the City Council building.

21:27 - "As mayor Bandić claims, "Let the institutions do their job" but I'd like that job to be done quickly, and not last as a years long tapeworm." Says Parliamentary Minister Branko Hrg(HSS).

21:29 - Ljubičić's attorney Veljko Miljević claims that the investigators have a "massive amount of search warrants" and that "It could take a while. They might even get me up tonight."
He also claims that "According to the weight added upon him, Ljubičić will be very easily defended". He added that he is additionally being trialed for abuse of employment decisions in the Holding and acting against the rules of public asset demand.

21:34 - Jutarnji has found out that among the arrested is also Ivan Tolić, the CEO of Zagreb Electric Tramways(ZET), a subdivision of Zagreb Holding.

21:59 - The raid on Bandić's home is still occurring. A group of pedestrians have appeared in front of the building, and it's confirmed that the mayor is still being vehemently supported by Ramo Dedić, a prominent businessman and controversial member of the Zagreb Roma Community.
This shit just keeps on going.
I'm not really surprised given the state of Croatia's politicians. Every Croatian from Zagreb to fucking L.A. will tell you all about it.
Although I could really know less about the tone in Zagreb because I'm barely there, more often I'm down by Split and Dubrovnik.
But holy shit these crackdowns just keep on coming, don't they?

It's arguably the biggest Zagreb-related in incident since the Zagreb Crisis, and it was obvious it'll become a powder keg after the mayor started putting a spin on the things the investigation was handling.
we have plenty of those people over here in america, wish we can do the same thing as well..
