This video is from December 2016, but I haven't seen it posted here, and its contents are pretty timeless. I absolutely recommend you watch all 35 minutes of it if you're interested in editing
Great video, watched it a bunch of times, I know nothing about editing and he explains everything really well
Pretty good video. I felt that there was a great story hidden in there somewhere. Personally, I think the movie would've been better had the villain been Joker or some shit instead of Crazy Witch Lady.
I was really surprised in the theater when I was watching it, slowly realizing that the impressions I got from the trailers—that this was going to be a story about how fucked up Joker is and that domestic abuse is awful or some shit about trauma making us all monsters or something more meaningful than LOOK AT THE CRAZY WITCH LADY AAAAAA—was completely wrong. He hit the nail on the head when he was talking about the brother being out of left field.
As it is, the story backgrounds don't make sense in the greater context of the film. They're not necessary. Why not make the story about how prison doesn't really make people get better? Why make a story that thousands of other movies offer, about a BAD CRAZY PERSON doing BAD CRAZY THINGS? Why include all that shit about Joker if it's not going to have an impact on the plot?
I don't know, guys. I had high hopes for the movie because I thought it was going to have some social commentary, some important things to say about the interplay of mental illness, domestic abuse, and private prisons not held to any kind of law. Instead, we got a shit movie that pandered so hard it forgot that it was movie and not some extended commercial.
He has a follow up where he addresses a few mistakes he made in this analysis and throws in a few more good points, for those who are interested:

This guy's content is amazingly thoughtful, just finished watching his video on Shadow of the Colossus.
