Speaking with Diamond.jp (and translated by Siliconera), Iwata talked about the death of former president Hiroshi Yamauchi as well as his plans for Nintendo's future. He specifically noted that "we need to redefine what Nintendo must do, from this point on [after Yamauchi passed away]."

“Yamauchi was one to always say, ‘Nintendo is a company for entertainment, and it shouldn’t be for anything else,’ and he didn’t necessarily think that entertainment equals video games, I’ve been wondering how to express Yamauchi’s feelings, and I’ve been thinking about it nonstop, even during the New Year’s holiday break."
There might still be hope for the Big N yet.
Nintendo doesn't need to redefine themselves, they just need to do what they do well, more. More groundbreaking shit like Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy was. Less technically fun but regressive titles like New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 3D land/world. The way he's talking is making me think of stuff like Wii Music and that's a really bad sign. Nothing Nintendo has ever done or ever will do has been or will be as fun or entertaining as the video games they make. Stick to those.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/31/technology/nintendo-chief-announces-foray-into-health-care.html?_r=0 they already do stuff for starlight in america: http://starlight.nintendo.com/ they are planning to become a entertainment/health company. it would actually be cool to see Nintendo Childrens hospitals and stuff.
They need to release smash brothers on the Wii u months before they put it out on the 3ds in order to drive Wii u sales
The idea of Nintendo becoming a health related company as well as a fun entertainment company could probably rank them as the friendliest, loveliest company around.
Jezus, because Nintendo made ONE console that didn't sell well they have to "Redefine" themself? No Nintendo, you just made some mistake and that's logic because you're only human, but with the knowledge you have learned now in the back of your head when making your next console I am sure you will be, after the launch of it, on the top amongst Sony/Microsoft etc again. They made 2 problems with the Wii U that causes it to sell not well, which are; 1. They went with a name with "Wii" in it. It's confusing for most of the casual customers because most adults (Parents and such) I know think the Wii U is an expansion for the normal Wii, which is not the case. They had to give the Wii U a total different name, like the Gamecube and Nintendo 64 had. 2. They didn't give it enough power which why third party support fairly early dropped for it. They just had to wait to launch it with the PS4/Xbox One and give the Wii U similar specs so third party developers easely can port their games to the Wii U aswell without having to greatly downgrade all the graphics. And something that isn't related to the console itself, but more on Nintendo's side; They need to make killer games again! The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina in Time, Super Mario 64, Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, etc. Games that take a fresh spin on a familiar theme. Yes, Super Mario 3D World is fun, but it feels like a generic game that you can just make up in a few weeks. YES I'M TALKING TO YOU NINTENDO! You make perfect games, so do that again! I feel like the last few games you made where made rather quickly so you could boost up the sales, and that's not a good thing. Yes, like I already said, they were fun, but they lacked the sparkle that made for example Super Mario Galaxy a fantastic game. I am not a guy who works in the video game industry, but even I could have figured that out. I love you Nintendo, yes I am a Nintendo Fanboy, and you are in my top 3 list of favorite video game companies on the world, so I really want to see you shine again!
They've been interested in health care for a while now. When you look at stuff like the heartbeat senor and WiiFit stuff (well pretty much the entirety of the Wii) they have been doing you can definitely tell that they have been looking to expand for a while.

They need to do another Wario World like game.
Relaunch the entire company as an adult film studio.
Thing is, even if they stop making big-time consoles they could still do games on the other platforms like Xbox and Sony. I mean, Atari and Sega fell out of the console market a long time ago, and they still develop and publish games. Also, even if they end up no longer doing "console" consoles, they still have a big presence in terms of handhelds like their DS range. Also also, whilst I want Nintendo to take their time with the big gun titles like Zelda U and Metroid U to ensure they are near-perfect, I simultaneously hope that they don't take too much time with them and risk not living up to the hype and expectations.
Relaunch the entire company as an adult film studio.
We can finally get another sequel to Super Hornio Bros
Relaunch the entire company as an adult film studio.
they can bring back their love hotels!
almost makes it sound like they'll go back to making cards and board games.... actually he's right in that nintendo shouldn't be all about video games, they carved a market out for themselves in the last gen with the Wii by being NOT about cutting edge graphics and super-powerful games, and while the wii's catalog stagnated towards the end because they had horrible quality control, people did buy the good games. 2010 was probably the worst year for them though, the iPad came out and made their stuff look...lame, now motion sensing shit is everywhere, even built into my watch, so really should be thinking about how to use android and iOS to integrate into their system. i personally didn't like the way they went with the Wii-U but ive heard from people that actually own them that it's a great system, but how much better would it have been if you could use an ipad or nexus tablet as a controler or additional screen? idk, like he said, nintendo can do whatever it wants, and it will, right now they are trying to redefine themselves and with all the neat hardware comming down the pipe like occulus and google glass, i bet they'll figure it out
Would love a more health and activity focused Nintendo, but I wish the focus was more on the training I would benifit from. I want a Nintendo product that would help and be fun for me, an active adult male, which is something Wii Fit doesn't seem to be aimed for currently.
Relaunch the entire company as an adult film studio.
At least we'll finally get to know what was behind Peach's shelf or whatever it was.
Nintendo has said they would stop making games all together if they drop out of the console market.
Nintendo won't drop the only thing they're really doing right at the moment just because they're not doing consoles. That'd be dumb, and I don't think anyone would really appreciate it.
They have so much money banked that they would be okay for like 30 years atleast.
Nintendo has said they would stop making games all together if they drop out of the console market.
I doubt stockholders would let them do this. They own Nintendo, not Nintendo.
They'll probably leave the home console market but stay in the handheld market since there is where they seem to dominate.
Nintendo has said they would stop making games all together if they drop out of the console market.
I'm gonna need a source on this.
Should also add "They need to revive franchises more like Star Fox & F-Zero".
I never played it but really how could you forget wario world?
Nintendo didn't last for over a 100 years because they stuck to the same thing. They started out with hanafuda cards, made toys and novelties when they stopped selling, went into videogames when there was money to be made in the sector, and now they're branching out again.
I never played it but really how could you forget wario world?
wario world was developed by treasure, who have been playing with their dicks the past like 6 years and need to make something new already

Nintendo needs to stop dicking around and put out the quality titles people buy their consoles for. I've had my fill of side-scrolling mario games, I'd like a real game now.
The idea of Nintendo becoming a health related company as well as a fun entertainment company could probably rank them as the friendliest, loveliest company around.
Especially if they went into children's health and could use their own characters as icons without copyright issues

see nintendo is finished they should've released games on the dreamcast maybe then they'd be doing well
