I love these expositions on his work popping up more often. As ridiculous as he appears in media I absolutely love Kanye and his work as a producer, rapper, artist, anything; from beginning to now.

I have no doubt that he will be remembered as one of the greatest artists of our generation. I highly doubt we'll ever have someone like Kanye ever again
People who try to tell me that Kanye is untalented, a hack, or an idiot, just don't know what they're fucking talking about.
I always thought Facepunch users meant it ironically when they give statements like this.
haha you're so funny dude coming into a kanye thread, expecting a certain kind of response, and then CALLING OUT that kind of response!

can't remember where I saw, but an industry magazine essentially ripped into it. kanye is on a kinetic platform, barely lit up (only some top light), with virtually nothing around him apart from an array of lights above him, moving about. That's it. That's not a show. That's paying to see someone shackled onto a platform moving about. If you think it's "art", it's not. It's what an art student trying to come up with something cool or funky without realising the technical and artistic requirements to make it work well would do. Kanye's set where the only mise-en-scene was a moving truss consisting only of par cans? That was cool. This isn't.
I always thought Facepunch users meant it ironically when they give statements like this.
Depends on the thread.
That's not a show. That's paying to see someone shackled onto a platform moving about.
it is also a music performance

The platform works immensely well for what it needs to be. The main thing is that it creates some great visuals at each venue. Stuff like this is striking to the general viewer, and really isn't replicated elsewhere: [t]http://i.imgur.com/JywKgzR.jpg[/t] There are lasers as well for one of the songs. It isn't entirely just a stage and some lights. Also the fact that it's in the air instead of a stationary stage means the floor can be filled with people. More people means more money and stuff like that.
I haven't found an answer yet.
what answer are you looking for yes sir your taste is objectively better than any others and people who consider kanye to be an art icon are just retarded
I always thought Facepunch users meant it ironically when they give statements like this.
why would you think its ironic kanye has done a ton for the music industry and modern music in general we will never have another kanye
I love artists who pull off big set pieces. Ironically, the two genres that attach themselves the most to the audience and attempt to create large set pieces/narratives are the two that started nominally in the 80s. Rap and Heavy Metal.
I always thought Facepunch users meant it ironically when they give statements like this.
Im serious
I always thought Facepunch users meant it ironically when they give statements like this.
Why would it be ironic? Kanye is one of the most highly influential hip-hop artists today. Some would even argue he redefined the genre at some point in time(i'm not sure which album or year)

kanye is an incredible artist. i saw him during yeezus and the watch the throne tour and the shows draw you in no matter where you're sitting. if you want a good idea of what kanye is like as an artist just watch this. it's incredible. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of the greatest pieces of music ever created
we've already hit the kanye thread classics someone posts something shit talking him or the video about him and then someone replies with OH WATCH OUT BRO THE FACEPUNCH KANYE ILLUMINATI IS GONNA GET YOU i hope we hit some more of the cliches moving forward, this thread is still young
why would you think its ironic kanye has done a ton for the music industry and modern music in general we will never have another kanye
Kanye hasn't done shit for either. He's on the same path of monetization everyone else is. Hip Hop is in a sales free fall aside from a very small and select group of artists and he didn't invent asymmetric rap, he didn't invent not rhyming at all, and he sure as hell didn't invent using EDM/lo fi samples instead of commercially sampled music. He hasn't touched a subject matter others haven't, and even shit-talking a president on air was done with Easy-E and Public enemy well before Katrina. What he did was become popular; no more, no less. The only thing he did as a "genius" was convincing his boss Jay-Z to let him out from behind the KB/Console and onto the mic. Never have a another guy who's popular? Yeah, that sure is coming to a end when Kanye dies. No one will ever make an ass of themselves in the media on a daily basis again, que lastima.
This debate just weirds me out there's two extremes, either you think Kanye is literally God or you think he's an idiot shitbag, and nobody in the middle just makes me not want to get involved at all
Here's another good video essay.

I like his music. Fuck the politics.
The Kanye Illuminati is already well engrossed into KTT
ktt we out here [editline]29th September 2016[/editline]
id argue graduation is p much a gold standard in album production (forgive the clean version but this is the only version on youtube i could find right now)
ppl often say that grad is his worst (on ktt, hhh and in general) but I think it has some really great tracks. To be fair though I'd also put it down there, but thats just because its a light 9 out of a discography of strong 9s and 10s
