Aren't there enough MOBAs already? Must be just me.
Jesus Christ, it's Battleborn in third person and without an art style.
They even used an unfitting M83 song in the announcement.

can't you just say smite? lmao
at this point if there isn't anything new being brought to the table there's no real reason to start playing a new moba. so many new mobas have come out and have never been heard from again after the initial announcement, the only difference being that this is a big studio. doesn't look very interesting either.
All of these derivative MOBAs make me nostalgic for the days of derivative WW2 FPS games. At least out of those we got Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and United Offensive.
Why couldn't they go Titanfall route and have less moba, more game?
I feel sad, because it's obvious that there is talent here being wasted on something that could end up being dead within a year, if not less. If they're wanting it to grab people's attention they're gonna have to show something more than what we've seen in other dead MOBAs

Well it makes sense that so many MOBAs are coming out. The formula has been shown to be successful and everyone wants to put their own spin on it. 10 years ago open world games were being called GTA clones and before that FPS games were Doom clones.
Honestly though, I'm probably not going to play this. I don't know what I was expecting or hoping for Paragon to be but I really don't want to play a MOBA

The thing with open world and fps games is that the formula leaves a HUGE window for creativity. MOBAs not so much.
The environment looks like if Bungie made a MOBA.
MOBA's are just a bad investment. Even if your game is better in every single way it won't take away from League/Dota.

it doesn't have to.
You have to admit though that was a pretty cool trailer
Summon a big fucking rock on your enemies from some other dimension? hell yeah

The same could be said about fighting games. Just because your game has great mechanics doesn't mean it's going to land itself at EVO in place of the usual big games.
Might just be me, but I was under the impression that Smite worked as a MOBA because a lot of the abilities raised the camera up high and gave you a "traditional" RTS view of the action, if only for a moment. This just looks like a 5v5 third person shooter with minions?
should had taken from something like spellforce or C&C renegade, rpg/moba or moba/rts hybrid or just copy them directly and go for rpg/rts or fps/rts
GoW had immensely satisfying 3rd person multiplayer, so I'll give this a chance.
unlike most other genres of games, mobas require almost 100% dedication to a single game to be great at it, you can play gta, saints row, and the whole array of genericubisoftopenworldgames back to back and be fine with them
with mobas, you are either shit/mediocre at all of them or good at one or two of them, most people aren't likely to pick another one up because of this
I see what you're trying to say but you're wrong. What you said only applies to isometric dota-style mobas. For mixed genre mobas it's not true at all. Not to mention that's a given for competitive games. The more you play one game, the better you get. Not sure why you're mentioning SP games at all. The reason you can be good at gta/sr/genericubisoftgame is because those games do not require skill. They're SP games made for noncompetitive fun.
I think with a game like, Overwatch, you can be a good shooter player and enjoy the shooter characters and if you're not good at that, learn the ropes with the pretty versatile and fairly powerful other classes that rely less on super accuracy and more about "when and where".

Smite works because it's more of a hybrid rather than 'FPS/TPS game with moba mechanics', the game for the most part is played on the ground and you can't do stuff like jump over autoattacks and abilities, a few take people into the air in untargetable states though. Autoattacks go out from your character in a straight line so are basically skillshots in themselves.

Idk, I don't find this true at all as someone that has max level or high time accounts over almost every major moba and I have pretty decent MMRs/ranks in them. Most skills are transferable even over different types of games, ie lately a few friends who ONLY played LoL for a few years decided to try Smite, and aside from them needing some time to grasp the mechanics, they picked the game up really fast and were far better than even some people I know who play a fair bit.
The announcement was such a massive disappointment for me. I was expecting this to be some sort of RPG shooter like Borderlands but turns out its yet another MOBA, which is a genre I hate.
i mentioned sp games because someone else did when referring to "gta-likes"
if you're good at 1 fps, you can be pretty good at almost all others, someone transitioning from being a pro quake player can easily go pro in csgo or pfffft cod
No no, someone good at quake cannot "easily" be a pro in cs. They're both fps, but besides that they have entirely different rules. Literally the only transferrable skill is ability to put crosshair on target. Besides that it's really different.
And if you use CS to COD logic, someone good at DOTA can wreck chaos in HOTS for example, due to casualized gameplay.
You can also transfer some of the skill from dota to lol or vice versa.
If you're a pro CS/Quake player, you will do good in FPS moba. Moba itself is not an entire genre like fps or tps. It's a supplement. Any genre can become moba by turning it into a battle arena with minions and all the typical moba crap. The way game plays though can be done in a lot of different ways. It can be TPS action aka Smite or it can be more of a TPS shooter like this game seems to be.
I feel like so many games nowadays are trying to be competitive e-sports, and that's lame as fuck.
Fuck mobas.
First they destroy the RTS genre, now they are trying to replace everything.
Fuck mobas.

Nope it's just a trend
RTS died because people stopped buying them. Perfectly good ones have been coming out, and just dying because even RTS fans aren't buying them enough.
A competitive game in UE4 with great graphics seems a bit ironic. Don't competitive gamers own GTX 980 ti cards in SLI but turn down everything to CS 1.6 level via console commands so they do get more FPS and less distracting effects? Or is that a thing of the past? I hate e-sports and haven't followed it for years.

Well the new UT is still in pre-alpha and it consistently runs super smooth on my GTX970 even with a ton of particles and shit zooming around. With UE4 getting more optimization in the future, I can see less powerful hardware running it just as well as I can
My god those weapons sounds are so bland. The shotgun the soldier dude was shooting is literally the same sound that is used in Halo.

probably because it's not a shotgun, it's a railgun.
