You know your video is extreme when you have wailing guitars punctuating everything you say and do.
I have no doubt in my mind that when people from the future look back at the art of this timeperiod, it will be called the dark age of art.

Every generation throughout the ages thought it was living in a "dark age of art" where "all the art of the past was way better".

How to tell someone doesn't understand contemporary art.

Modern art is all pretentious trash. The only true artform left is photorealistic digital paintings of space marines.

This video is legit a pretty good art piece in itself
And yet, in the proces of destroying, he himself created art.

It's natural selection. The superior art has destroyed the inferior.

There's plenty of reasons to dislike contemporary art, stop with that crappy argument of "not understanding contemporary art".
There hasn't been a time in the past centuries where the technical prowess of an art piece has been so irrelevant as it happens now. Art has been redefined into this concept of something that evokes feelings and that has raised a tremendous amount of bullshit.
"A ceramic object that is intended as a subversive comment on the nature of beauty is more likely to fit the definition of contemporary art than one that is simply beautiful."
This current form fully depends on explanations and many artists simply resort to write a grandiose description of their literal shit.
As someone who takes interest in the technical skills of an artist (and this doesn't mean at all photorealism, many art styles require great technical skills without being photorealistic) this period of art is indeed a dark period.
Fortunately, there's plenty of great artists in the underground scene or working in the entertainment industry.

If you look at a Monet alongside a da Vinci, you'll probably feel that both give off a "classic" feel, yet people from Monet's era had a very hard time accepting the harsh, unseemly brush strokes of impressionist paintings. The same thing happens every era.

How is that a bad thing though?
How is that a bad thing though?
As it happens with most things in art, it's mostly a subjective opinion, I probably could've phrased that better.
While I find the appeal in the notion of something that art is something that anyone can do, as long as it's able to evoke feelings, I think in practice it created a generation of hollow artists. As long as any reaction is a good reaction you get plenty of artists doing nothing but low-effort provocative art.

This whole argument still boils down to "I only like things that are aesthetically appealing and so all other art is null and void".
I don't get it. He's just smashing and destroying artwork for six and a half minutes. Is the joke that he's acting like a fucking moron? Because "ha ha ha jokes on them I was only pretending to be retarded" is the dumbest joke ever made.
I'm serious, am I missing the point of the video?

It's not like Picasso didn't know how to paint realistic pieces, he just ins't famous for them.
My point is most of the famous artists that explore new styles have copied and can do all the known styles almost to perfection, that's what allows them to create their own thing.

Picasso is actually a good example of what I'm saying because he knew all the fundamentals before he tried to do something of his own - there's a lot of value and respect in that.
Most of the contemporary artists do not know the fundamentals, that's part of what makes contemporary art. The ability that anyone, without formal traditional traning, can produce art.
I don't think all art with no apparent technical skill is bad, but I dislike a movement that completely disregards the fundamentals and traditional art.

If you misread what I said, I suppose you can reach that conclusion but that's not what I support.
I feel like this movement has no respect for the fundamentals of traditional art. Exceptions always exist in an individual basis but when I glance at the movement as a whole I do think a lot of these renowned contemporary artists do not produce artwork that are worthy of their praise.
This is the movement that creates pieces that are so similar to trash that cleaners constantly put them there (e.g. https://nypost.com/2015/10/27/modern-art-exhibit-mistaken-for-trash-and-thrown-away/) Yet, artists always support this type of reaction because, well. it is a reaction.
When every reaction enables the art, everything becomes support for the art piece, including the obvious lack of effort. Therefor a movement that supports this type of attitude is, in my opinion, a movement not worth supporting.

"Art" is a completely meaningless term anyway. Traditional, technical art is it's own thing in a massive, purely subjective category. Any interpretation of the word boils down to whoever's using it.

I don't think this video takes place in the south at all. He's the only one with a remotely southern accent. Seems more like the midwest or something to me.
