Yeah I've noticed that pretty much every server he joins, someone recognizes him and it just kind of ruins the whole thing. A few times hes had to petition the admins to let him make videos on their server because hes getting harassed by 20 kids swarming him trying to get in a video. That alone has to be making it tough as hell to keep making videos.
Well when every server uses some Dark RP reskin then yeah it'll get cancerous
It's a shame but I kinda agree. It's just the same shit every time; no matter how much he tries to improvise.
With how long Gmod RP has been a thing, I'm really surprised with how little has been added to it and improved it, I stopped playing it a few years ago but I still look every now and then and all of the populated servers are essentially the same. I've seen a few different takes on RP gamemodes other than DarkRP but none have really pushed the boundaries and were almost always empty servers. I'm excited for improvements in GTAV's modded server scene, I've played it a bit and while its not mindblowing yet I will say playing on a decent server is loads better than any time I've play GTA Online servers.
This is probably a good thing for him, even if there were more populated and diverse RP servers there is only so much content he could make from it before it got old.
This was probably a long time in coming and I don't blame him. A lot of the content that he's done that's been really good has either been planned or just done with his friends, and if he branches out to other games, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

I got personally involved with one RP that was known as Toxic, and it generated players despite just being another C17 RP based off of DarkRP. Also got into a few personal altercations with a hacker that was harassing the server and threatening individual players. There were some RPs that improved interfaces and GUI, did some impressive technical shit here and there, but all they did was add fancy stuff ontop of the same old thing while everyone hunts for poon and guns to feel badass and shoot folks / combine / zombies in the face.
Innovation left DarkRP and now they're just glorified donation farms.
I feel like he should play some more legitimate serious RPs, like those running on Clockwork/Nutscript instead of just DarkRP.
gmod rp will never be anything but the biggest piece of shit joke its just devoid of all fun and everyone involved is pretty stupid sure, you'll find some actually not shit people that actually have some form of real intelligence. But most of it are dumb kids that don't care about waiting turns and don't understand what a plot line is, they just shit-post lines on their own que and talk over eachother, and god mode.

It's sad because serious RP when done right can be very enjoyable .
gmod 9 and early gmod 10 was fun
That's when GMod legit was 'fresh' and not swamped by kids fresh-out-of-the-vagina
That's when GMod legit was 'fresh' and not swamped by kids fresh-out-of-the-vagina
It wasn't as saturated, that's for sure. In a time where the scripts/servers have never been more advanced the community has never been so chock-full of those little shit demons.
8 years ago I thought Lord Gollum's GNation RP was the greatest shit ever. Looking at Dark RP now I'm wondering if GNation was always just as shit and 14 year old me had disgusting taste or Gollum did something right.
A big motivator behind all forms of GMod servers becoming trite and stale is the "servers as a business" model that everyone and their mother is following now. There's no real drive to innovate or risk hosting new game modes, because those new game modes don't generate consistent income streams. A good server host, a DarkRP/ Clockwork (or any other paid garbage) reskin and PointShop will not only attract players, but get them to spend money on virtually anything. "Pay us $5 for 1000 points for the server shop!", "Pay $10/m for bonus points on any points your earn AND user group x!". Why the hell would you try to come up with something new when you can make bank from fucking idiots? At least I can take solace in the high possibility that every server owner actually making money like this is committing tax fraud by not reporting this income, most of them are far too young to realise you actually need to do that.
Now the question is will he just become like STER_ and retreat into the twitchhole, never to be seen again? Because when ster quit TF2, his other videos viewnumbers basically plummeted.
I recall not enjoying SUPER SERIOUSLY RP servers either, since a lot of them were crummy ERP platforms where you had to apply on the forums to be able to wield handguns and only the admins' metaclub were allowed to join in on away missions and server events. It was like LARPing without any exercise and you couldn't apply to be a monster.
Coming from games like Space Station 13 where (on some servers at least) you're expected to create down to earth characters and play them out over the long term in a realistic-ish sense, people labeling Gmod cash printer farming simulator as roleplay seems bizarre to me. Do people actually consider DarkRP roleplay?

Do people actually consider DarkRP roleplay?
RP has become an extremely broad term, where you find gmod RP to barely fit into the definition because of your experience with SS13, I find SS13 to barely fit into the definition because of my own experiences with D&D, Pathfinder, and the like. I used to think that the big gmod RP servers (like TnB) were what roleplay really was, up until I experienced my first real D&D campaign. Its really up to personal preference and experience at this point it seems.
I remember seeing some of his streams and he sometimes had a look of "I'm sick of playing this" whenever it was Gmod RP.
