NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two Muslim religious leaders say they were removed from a commercial airliner in Memphis on Friday and were told it was because the pilot refused to fly with them aboard. Masudur Rahman, who is also an adjunct instructor of Arabic at the University of Memphis, said by telephone from the terminal at Memphis International Airport that he and another imam had already been allowed to board their Delta Connection flight to Charlotte, N.C., before they were asked to de-board. Transportation Security Administration spokesman Jon Allen in Atlanta confirmed the incident and said it was not initiated by that agency. A Delta Air Lines spokeswoman said the flight was operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines, which is also based in Atlanta. ASA didn't immediately respond to telephone calls seeking comment. Rahman said he was dressed in traditional Indian clothing and his traveling companion was dressed in Arab garb, including traditional headgear. Rahman said he and Mohamed Zaghloul, of the Islamic Association of Greater Memphis, were cleared by security agents and boarded the plane for an 8:40 a.m. departure. The aircraft pulled away from the gate, but the pilot then announced the plane must return, Rahman said. When it did, the imams were asked to go back to the boarding gate where Rahman said they were told the pilot was refusing to accept them because some other passengers could be uncomfortable. Rahman said Delta officials talked with the pilot for more than a half-hour, but he still refused. The men were taken to a lounge and booked on a later flight. hey called the Council on Islamic-American Relations, a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group in Washington, D.C. "It's racism and bias because of our religion and appearance and because of misinformation about our religion." Rahman said. "If they understood Islam, they wouldn't do this." He said a Delta manager apologized for the pilot's actions, but that he and Zaghloul never spoke directly with the pilot. Ibrahim Hooper, of the Islamic-American organization, said the group will follow up with the airline and with the TSA to help ensure such incidents do not continue to occur. Hooper said airline officials at Memphis tried to resolve the situation, but the pilot refused.
Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/06/masudur-rahman-mohamed-za_n_858823.html The pilot is probably part of the Tea Party.
what a douchenozzle
Way to stereotype
Thaaat should not be legal.
What the fuck is wrong with Americans anymore?
Thaaat should not be legal.
It sounds like it isn't legal, but the pilot simply outright refused to fly. I'm certain there will be a follow up. (that is, if there isn't I lose faith in humanity)
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request. (User was banned for this post ("Idiot" - Starpluck))
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request.
What were they requesting? Fly in a plane using a plane ticket they fucking bought? This is a terrible post and you should feel bad.
What the fuck is wrong with Americans anymore?
I'm downright ashamed to live in this country, don't you worry.
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request.
They bought their own tickets what the fuck
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request.
Yeah, God forbid we allow Muslims to board a plane.
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request.
They weren't asking for special treatment, they paid for the flight like everyone else, there was no bowing down happening anywhere in story. You're just mad because they have equal rights.
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request.
Can i get on a plane please? NO WE ARE NOT BOWING DOWN TO YOU ..How is this logical?
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request.
bowing to them? they were on the plane and wanted to go to their destination for the tickets they bought... wtf is wrong with that?
Pilot should be fired, or at least severely punished.
There's probably some other reasons behind it - but it's very possible for it to be racially motivated. Currently it is only a one sided story. (when you do away with any critical thinking regarding the evidence, you're just as bad as the pilot)
You know, muslims are more prone to do terrorism than the western people.
What!? After all those security check which confirm them clear of any dangerous weapons, they are denied their flight? Other passenger could be uncomfortable around Muslims? Are we living in 1103 Crusader era age again?
You know, muslims are more prone to do terrorism than the western people.
ooh a statistic this definitely warrants letting no muslim on a plane ever again. ever.
I bet this is one of the reasons they do terrorism.
While his reasons were biased, I am kinda glad to see we aren't 100% bowing to muslims and doing anything they request.
:worship: These people have bought their own plane tickets and we are allowing them to fly, we are bowing down to them!
You know, muslims are more prone to do terrorism than the western people.
What?
I bet this is one of the reasons they do terrorism.
"they" :saddowns:
Ask any Muslim 1 question, because I do not want to become a Muslim, but respect your religion, am I still a Kafir (basically a disbeliever). They will tell you that you are, and in the Qur'an it clearly states that all Kafir must be beheaded and treated like a foul dog, and that if they do not turn to Islam that Holy War will be started upon which all Muslims, man, woman and child are called to arms to murder all Kafir. Do a bit of research into it, read it for yourself. Not suprised some people are starting to show signs of turning against it.
Next they will ban gays from riding airplane. The pilots are way too paranoid
I bet this is one of the reasons they do terrorism.
ye this peaceful imam is now gonna go blow the fuck out of them in revenge and it won't be ironic or detrimental to the image of islam at all i hope to god terrorists don't think like this because it would do far more harm than good
The question is how did they even get past security.
The question is how did they even get past security.
easily?
The question is how did they even get past security.
because they bought tickets for the plane and had valid passports and nothing dangerous or illegal on their persons?
The pilots are way too paranoid
that's assuming that the whole story is being told. currently we only have one telling of the tale from the victim perspective. it's very possible that the pilot had reason for evicting them from the plane.
