:terrists: "Small town" politics is never corrupt.
I don't understand what that officer is doing
I don't understand this at all. I know figures of authority abusing their power isn't exactly uncommon in America, but this is an undeniably improper reaction to the situation that was caught on film. His actions are downright egregious. Why the hell did he arrest her when she left the room? It's hard to hear from the video but it seemed like she left shortly after being asked, was followed and then arrested. What is this dude going to say when he's asked why he did that? I don't get the logic, he wasn't even in a high stress situation or anything. The hell is this dude doing?

Take this scene back a couple hundred years and it's the Town Council sending the watchman to get rid of a citizen asking too many questions.

How does he get away with that? Will he get away with that? It's such a blatant abuse of power, such an overreaction to the situation. Everyone in the room was outraged. I must seem naive as hell if stuff like this is commonplace, but is this guy liable to face any consequences for this? It's a shame we didn't get the tackle the lady talked about on camera.
This better get attention in the news because this is beyond fucked.

This might blow up in their faces like the nurse arrested for not letting a cop draw a patient's blood, but only because it gets viral. This is very common place and is pretty endemic to small towns or even big ones. They don't face consequences because the local police is either all buddys with the local government or they're being paid/getting other insane benefits. And the thing about teachers wages staying the same while administrators get huge raises is also a problem pretty much everywhere. Our entire school system is absolutely awful, corrupt, and mismanaged, and I have no idea how its stayed afloat for as long as it has when teachers get paid nothing, are treated like dirt, buy their own supplies, have to continually go back to school themselves which costs a lot of money, and then it's decided that a fundraiser's money is going to be spent buying $50,000 worth of equipment for the gym instead of upgrading the science lab or getting new calculators for the math department. The focus on sports instead of education quality is also killing public schools.

I mean who is going to make the officer answer to his actions? The city government? Just this short video shows how corrupt the situation already is. The best outcome would be for the teacher to sue and maybe get something back under the pretense of blatant miscarriage of justice. But even then the money she'd get from the lawsuit would just be the taxpayer's money. That officer and the city government wouldn't lose a penny.

I knew there was corruption afoot anywhere you go, but the fact that they're comfortable enough in their positions of power to blatantly abuse it, with the only hope to catch them out being viral videos, is depressing and frustrating. Why even arrest her after she left the room? I mean, was it to punish her for speaking out? If I try and put myself into their shoes it seems like the best course of action was to just let her leave after kicking her out. What absolute tossers, I really hope this blows up in their faces. Last time I felt this frustrated over a video was, funnily enough, the nurse video you mentioned.
this small town corruption stuff is extremely, extremely common throughout America. it's not just senators and congressmen being corrupt shitheads, it's also small town representatives and even school board authorities. it pisses me off that this stuff is so blatant and unconfronted. i hope these people end up in custody over this, and i hope those teachers get the raises they obviously deserve.
This breaks my heart.
I'm at a complete loss for words at this. It's like no matter how far go into a capitalist dystopia I think the US could go, it turns out it's already there. At this point I'm expecting slavery to make a return. I mean explicitly, like a manager can just cut off a blue-collar worker's head like samurai did.
This is upsetting. I hope that because of the exposure this is starting to get it will lead to some of those people being remove from their positions.

[editline]9th January 2018[/editline] Wether this gets sorted out or not shouldn't be down to if there's enough media coverage and outrage about it.

Such things do not exist here. Pretty much all injustice like this is only sorted out if there's enough media coverage and outrage. It's unfortunate but it's the truth.
from my experience seems like business as usual for an American school board. Glad this story is going viral though.

Those organizations are both.
unnecessary spending is any spendin that dun' be gettin in my wahllet

If that is the rationale, they might as have a full-blown anarchy, but I doubt anyone actually wants that, which just goes to show that people think they can have their cake and eat it too.
This hurts to watch. Mostly because I know there's nothing that can be done about it by the people affected.
"Somebody else about to get arrested" fuck off

You think you can convince them they need to spend more money to keep corruption in check? That's socialism right there bud. You some kind of dirty socialism? Corruption is as American as apple pie and loving the troops until they're home and then we can leave them homeless if we feel like it because why the fuck should we give handouts? Handouts are devil's work son. Have a nice pair of bootstraps, I'll finance them to you at a generous 25.99% APR with no money down today.
It's unfortunate that rooting out corruption doesn't really win points with either liberals or conservatives in this country. Both parties have intellectual cores, but the vast majority of the voters in either camp are primarily motivated by feel-good promises. Conservatives want to fight crime, protect families, and remove government interference from their lives. Liberals want to strengthen the social welfare, promote education, and empower the disadvantaged. Since the rampant corruption isn't high enough on anyone's agenda, campaigning for civic reform is a losing strategy for candidates. And of course, once you've entered office, you stand to benefit from the corruption. Why would anyone in office reform the system when there's no mandate from the public to do so? I've said a number of times in the last few years that this country is in steady decline and it's fundamental things like this that are at the heart of it. When I became an adult, one of the most disappointing trends I really began to notice is just how brazen everyone is about dishonesty in this country. Not just politicians, but marketeers, managers, media people, celebrities, and so on. They tell lies with the attitude of "so what if it's untrue, what are you gonna do about it?" And nobody does anything about it. It flows right through the media and ends up as water cooler talk around the country, and nobody seems embarrassed that seemingly every public figure they supposedly look up to is a crooked piece of shit. Everyone I know is fed up. A lot of us want to leave and settle elsewhere, like the UK and Canada. I know it won't be anything close to perfect out there, but this can't be the best life available to me.
It's sad to see that "This is America" is now said in a solemn, pitiable tone, rather than a proud and rejoiceful one. Things are only getting worse.
The part where the person in charge gets the raise seems like a typical corporate thing to me. In order to keep costs low you pay the guy in charge of the teachers more money to cut costs and keep performance up. “You managed to keep 30 teachers from quitting this year AND we didnt have to pay them bonuses/rasises? Good job you get a raise! Now keep those dumb teachers and the unions satisfied so we can keep up the status quo” What I dont get is what that dumbass cop is doing kicking her out of the meeting and arresting her, hope she sues his ass and the department. If theres something youre hiding, you don’t want to end up in court.

It’s just that doing so tends to result in shit happening to people like in this video. It’s dangerous.

How do these people sleep at night?
