PYONGYANG: After much secrecy over a “big and important event” which foreign journalists were invited to cover, North Korea on Thursday (Apr 13) opened a new skyscraper-lined street in the capital, Pyongyang.
The event was presided by leader Kim Jong Un and witnessed by thousands, including around 200 foreign journalists who were invited by the regime.
Despite concerns that Pyongyang may conduct another nuclear test, the mood in the North Korean capital was calm, although residents Channel NewsAsia spoke to struck a defiant tone.

Either its to build up for Kim Il Sung birthday, or its a ruse
All these threads, the build up, it feels so fucking off and unnaturally far away from the normalcy of regular NK news we see on here. I just can't shake a feeling this is all part of the bigger narrative playing out.
i would be spooked as fuck if i was a journalist going to north korea for a "big event" right now
absolutely incredible, I'm in tears over this amazing progress
Yeah of course citizens talked up North Korea and it's infrastructure. If they don't act over the top proud they and their entire family are dragged off to gulags

says an increasingly nervous North Korean woman to a reporter for the 7th time this month.
And suddenly the reporters aren't allowed to leave the country because the USN will be arriving

Anything that gets people interested/concerned/talking will become a target for media spotlight.
Has happened countless times and each time it blows over people will be saying it was "misdirection from real issues"
