Seven Royal Marines have been arrested on suspicion of murder, the UK's Ministry of Defence has said.
A statement said the arrests on Thursday by the Royal Military Police related to an incident in Afghanistan in 2011.
It said the incident followed an "engagement with an insurgent" but no civilians were involved.
The ministry did not name the marines or give any further details.
If no civilians were involved did the insurgent try to surrender or something?
Well, I guess they're royally fucked.
"shit... charging a man with murder in this place was like handing out speeding tickets at the indy 500..."

pretty much
Maybe the insurgent surrendered and they shot him? Hard to say.
The only thing I could think of is that maybe they killed a fellow soldier?

Chances are they would have been arrested back in 2011 when it happened if that was the case. Its no doubt like shooting a insurgent that was to be kept alive or something.
Like how this thread isn't terribly popular.
[sp]maybe because it doesn't say "american soldiers" in the title[/sp]
At least they're not trying to cover it up.
Its war for fuck sake, Besides im pretty sure it was not intentional if it was a civilian death, It is a warzone after all.
7 marines being involved makes me think they might have captured an insurgent and then decided as a group to kill him

I hate this argument. Someone gets brutally and unjustly murdered? Enh, it's war, shit happens. No. Fuck that.
the circumstances of this are unknown but its not possible to rule out something like what happens in the documentary "armadillo" at the end in a firefight
Considering a British infantry section is 8 men, and only seven were arrested...

I wonder what possible reason they could have for killing a fellow marine...

Or one of the 8 told the army of something which got the other 7 arrested?
Theorys:
They shot their section commander
They shot unarmed insurgents, probably while surrendering
They killed another soldier in a brawl
They broke the rules of engagement so they most likely killed a POW.
Eh they operate in multiples rather than sections at the moment.

What about the civilians killed in Syria? The regular people just caught in the crossfire? Is killing innocents suddenly not so bad just because some pampered rich guy decided to declare war?
I think most all our troops are guilty of murder surely? It's just not so bad when some politicians tells you to do it.

it's semantics technically.
Murder and killing are completely different things contrary to popular opinion.
So really, what soldiers do when they kill combatants is killing, not murder which implies: "
The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another."

Yes.
And who makes the laws? Politicians.

see how it's circular?
