The idea for this came from the Thor movie though.
Nothing bothers me more in games than seeing a bunch of enemies standing in the middle of a huge explosion without being visibly bothered at all.

Nope, pretty sure it came from the movie as the norse god isn't as much of a faggot, and the "actual" mjölnir looked nothing like "Thor the homosexual super hero's" mjölnir which is featured in this here video-clip.
