I find it hard to take Sterling seriously when he goes into acid trip visuals and pog skits.
Just report on what's relevant. Don't invalidate yourself by being a clown.

Skip them?
Skip them?
You're right. We should all just stop criticizing things we don't like, instead, just skip them all.
That reminds me, why did you comment on that post? If you didn't like it, just skip it.
Yeah this one was bad like it was way too rushed.
Skip them?
I did.
I still think it's unprofessional to have them there in the first place. You can't act like a fool and be taken seriously, you have to choose.
Skip them?
Usually I would agree with you, but usually he leaves them out of the actual review, or at least makes them very short. Just some stuff at the beginning and some more at the end.
And they're also usually less shit.

Yes why can't it be like his other more professional videos where he dresses up like a squidkid from splatoon or talks to his William Defoe figure.
His videos have been goofy from day 1 so don't complain about it not being professional.

I never said you couldn't criticize it now did I? Because if you read my two word post you'll be amazed to find that I never said "Oh, and no criticizing it!"
Don't put words in my mouth and don't even try to claim I implied it.
Oh my god would you all just shut up.
Yes, not a fan of the weirdness, but Jim had a few comments about it and has addressed them, so I don't think it'll be as intrusive in future.

I lost a fair bit of respect for him throughout this entire #FucKonami thing. His take on Quiet only made that worse, since I find it hard to accept that it's wrong to enjoy a character from all aspects and not wrong to refuse to see a well written female character as well written because she dresses skimpily. Beyond all that he's said objectively wrong things about MGS in his Quiet video and stating rumors as facts about Konami in his #FucKonami videos. As much as I hate what Konami, I think Jim is squirming around down in the mud with them.
He seems like he's being just as immature as Konami tbh.
I used to be a big fan, now I feel like he's not representing what he used to represent. Which is sad in my books, he can move on and be a different person with different takes on situations, but I'm not following him. This is like when SuperBunnyHop had that phase where all of his videos made him come across as a clinically depressed killjoy.

I agree, I mean, I didn't really care about his stance on Quiet cause, opinions are opinions, but this "review" threw me over the edge.

For those who don't want to read, he doesn't review the game, he just keeps going on about the Boobs and Ass in the game. This is the only sentence that is "reviewey"
"This is made evident by the fact that, as a game, Deep Crimson is really a load of old guff. Its controls are obtuse, the brawling is a chaotic mess with a barely working targeting system and a tendency to not know who the hell is attacking who. There’s no balance, no tactical flexibility"
I am 16, I made a way better review than that for Metal Gear Rising...that is just embarrassing that review.

As much as he liked to belittle his detractors by joking about "going full SJW" he kind of is in that review. I guess I'd be ok with it if he wasn't using the word "review" to title what he's talking about.
And I'm not sure why your age factors into your ability to write decent critique, the real problem is that Jim has been a professional critic/journalist for years and he's managing to fuck up the basics of critiquing his medium.

Oh look. Jim is going all into Konami because that's what gives him the views.
The last few episodes have only been Konami. Fuckonami. Fuck Konami etc.
Can he just leave it behind? We all know that he hates them to the very bone.

Maybe it's just his character (judging by podcasts and reviews I'm going to say his character is more of an exaggerated version of him) but this seems very out of character for Jim. Happy to see that he actually can respond to constructive criticism.

I kinda thought it would make sense (my age), showing that even a 16 year old can write a good review.

Sadly, with game review and journalism most of the people in the business are teenagers who never really grew up.
So you'd probably be just as capable as them.

I'm confused, isn't everyone just a teenager that got older and got a job? I suppose this is an age old 'discussion' (and one that doesn't fit in a thread about Jim Sterling being a manchild) but I never really understood why a 16 year old is objectively inferior to a 30 something year old. Xonax could easily be just as competent as a proper professional game critic and journalist that did grow up by someone else's arbitrary standards, who knows?
a 30 year old will have more personal experiences and more experience in general with life to make much more informative and meaningful reviews/retrospectives/whatevers
the difference between a 16 year old saying "this is the best game i've ever played" and a 30 year old saying the same thing is the 30 year old has likely played a shitton more games, or has a much less biased perspective on everything due to having been alive for a lot of the shittiness of the industry
Maybe, still don't buy it in this particular case. Jim's previous experiences actually seem to be doing the opposite of improving his critique.

Life experience is amazing.
When I was 16, I thought I was the shit, and knew enough to get by. That was wrong. I'm 24 now. I know what I knew then is and was nothing. I know that in the 8 years since I've lived more and learned more than in those 16 years. Life is like that.
I'm sure there's a number of people out there who had really tough lives that learned self awareness at a young age, but young people, 16 year olds, don't have self awareness the same way a 30 year old will. I don't think there's a bonafide rule that older people are "better" but I think more often than not, most young people lack critical analysis skills, the emotional werewithall to keep emotions out of the equation, and the life experience to understand some of the implications of those things.
I don't think old people by their nature, have those qualities, but young people rarely have them either.

To be honest, he's really more digging into Konami because everyone else is.
Konami has pretty much reached the point that Phil Fish did a couple of years back. Every "gaming journalism" site is reporting on the slightest and most unimportant news regarding them, just because it enforces a conformation bias. Writing articles with opinions that a group of people agree with is what gets you the most money. People want to be told news that reinforces any beliefs they had prior to the article. Sites like Kotaku and Polygon thrive off that shit, which is why you'll have "legit" reviews usually followed by pure opinion pieces that have no bearing on if the game is good or not.
I'd also argue though that Jim is mostly doing this because he hated Konami before hating them was cool, so he finally gets a chance to shit on them without being told off by an army of Konami fan boys that used to exist. Though yeah, I'm sure he also does it because it gets him views, and views get him money, even though he's still getting thousands per month from his Patreon.
Skip them?
He's at his silly podium throughout the whole video though.
I don't see a problem with the skins that are coming out for MGS V, Jim complains about it "taking up development time" when it's mostly the art department that probably has nothing left to do with the game.

however this time the fucking art department was busy as shit because the game was technically still being fucking worked on when it went "Gold", (most of it was PC optimizations, but still we don't know) evidence was the CD versions being a Steam Installer which most of the time happens when the game isn't fucking ready by the time it goes "Gold"
Skip them?
I don't watch these things. I listen to them.
i'm pretty sure the horse armour isn't even confirmed to be microtransactions so he's really grasping at straws there
Yeah it was just a weird DLC Idea that quickly turned into a joke about DLCs.
