Retail monitor Chart-Track said the game recorded the highest week one sales for any Wii U title since the console's November 2012 release and the second best launch in the series' history. Mario Kart 8 hardware bundles accounted for 82 per cent of weekly Wii U sales. Nintendo will be hoping the release of Mario Kart 8 can kickstart a turnaround for the console globally following disappointing Wii U sales in the year ended March 2014. Those who purchase Mario Kart 8 then register their copy on the Club Nintendo website before July 31 will receive a code to download a free Wii U game. Mario Kart 8 debuted at No.2 on the UK all formats all prices chart behind Watch Dogs, which set a new IP sales record and also enjoyed the 17th highest week one sales of any game in the UK.
Hail Luigi-Satan
The Year Of Luigi actually caused a $456 Million dollar loss for Nintendo. [editline]2nd June 2014[/editline] The Wii U still has the issue of poor advertising and poor third party support. Waiting for the next big Nintendo release isn't going to do shit in the long run.
I am the 666%.
This now brings the total number of Wii U consoles sold to 100
That's almost 3 times as many!
In less than a fraction of the time.
666% of 0 is still 0
666% of 0 is still 0
Please go back to the Dead Joke Cemetery where you dug that joke out of and re-bury it. The rotting stench is bothering everybody.

I'm curious to see how smash bros will affect sales.
This doesn't mean shit, it's just marketing garbage without any real numbers, they're still selling far far faaaar below both the Xbone and PS4.
damn, there go their hopes and dreams of madly stroking cold hard data boners in other people's faces
In related news, the game sold 1.2 million copies this weekend.

Not to say Smash won't be awesome or won't sell well, but Mario Kart traditionally sells better, I think it's weird how many people assume Smash will be the end all best seller and Mario Kart 8 won't.
I don't get that because the most recent Smash game was stomped in sales by its equivalent Mario Kart game.
To be honest does it seem like the new SSB game has more hype around it than MK8 did.

The new Smash is now a pretty crucial part of Wii U's success since it doesn't have a lot of other games worth mentioning.

Not to shit on everyone's party, but I'd really like to see a source on this. I mean, the numbers themselves are a bit wack - sales grew 666%, with the bundles accounting for 82%. This means that not only did they sell 666% more bundles and non-bundles compared to the normal non-bundle only sale, but they also sold 120% more non-bundles than in the week before. It's not that this couldn't have occurred (I assume some stores simply didn't have the bundle, thus people bought a normal Wii U + Mario Kart or whatever), but I can't find any article mentioning a source - one I can access anyway.
