Because they're idiots. They also frequently use "sms-ese" in normal and formal communications sometimes as well. I had to recently yell at someone who sent a piece of correspondence to a client written like that.
In fact, it's often so prevalent when you use proper english that they consider you a stuck up tosser for not tokin lyk dis lyk sum kewl boi.
