Just got my ModMic 3.0 in today and decided to do a test with the noise-cancelling features and audio quality, since when I bought it I found such information hard to find for the 3.0. Microphone boost is enabled on my sound card. Verdict: well worth the price! Totally recommend getting this over getting a "gaming headset". Spend $40 on a modmic and turn any pair of headphones into a headset, and the 3.0 offers decent noise cancelling if you play with speakers on (headphones around neck in this case) or play on your TV. Modmic is also much better in sound quality than my desktop mic (which also picks up everything in the background making it hard to distinguish my voice).
For $36, it's not too bad of a deal.
Ever since 2011 I have been using AntLion, and my only issue with them is that the earlier models weren't really protected against cats and such.
Also, mic boost was enabled on my sound card but I didn't have any micboosting going on in my recording program. If using in a game or on TS, it'll pick up voice louder by increasing gain on the game or recording program. I as well had my microphone slightly farther away than needed so I noticed better volume after the fact when I adjusted further.
My ModMic 1 and 2 kept getting cut up wires and fraying, which sucks because the audio quality was always top notch.

For the price, as I said, this is a good cheap alternative.
