It's actually bigger. They initially were going to make it 4km x 4km, but somewhere along the line it became 8x8 like Erangal. Except with more land and less water.

Surprisingly there's an easy fix to the problem of it being a bigger map, Double the speed of the zone and up the vehicle spawn rate probably need some tweaking to make it right but it'll definitely solve the problem of nobody for fucking ages.
