America drops $132,000 in bombs to take out ISIS flag
This spectacular video, from Agence France-Press, shows a U.S. air strike against a few Islamic State fighters on a hilltop near Kobani, a Syrian border town the jihadist group has been trying to seize from Kurdish fighters. They seem to be holed up in some kind of fortifications on top of the mountain, and there’s also, if you squint, a dark flag that appears to be the black Islamist shahada flag, used by the Islamic State and other jihadist groups...
It’s impossible to say for sure what U.S. aircraft dropped the bombs or what kind of bombs they are, but there have been B-1 Lancers, a supersonic bomber, flying over Kobani, and according to the Aviationist, the bombs used are quite possibly GBU-12s, common American laser-guided bombs. Common, but not for commoners: Each of the six bombs dropped costs a cool $22,000.
With somewhere north of 100 U.S. and allied strikes in Syria since bombings began a month ago, the well-respected Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports that they’ve killed 464 Islamic State fighters and 57 fighters with al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate, Jabhat al-Nusra. Sadly, 32 civilians, including six children and five women, have also been killed, in air strikes against oil facilities held by the Islamic State.
I can't believe that dude just down the hill a bit survived!
I see a lot of secondary explosions that are not the kind bombs create, so there was clearly ammunition stockpiles on that mountain as well.
Were those... bunker busters?

Cleaning out the closet of those old bombs that were going to go to someone anyway.
There's more shit there than just a flag. There were ISIL supporters on that mountain.

if it's not the IS, it's the bombings, no place is safe

they specifically blocked fp? lol
Those looked like standard gbu38s (or even gbu54s respectfully), the spread was far too great for lgbs and would be damn near impossible to accomplish that spread through laser designation. You would see more ejecta than blast if those were meant for bunkers as well. The final two blasts had chasers so they were probably trying to achieve frag effect on that side of the hill. And I almost want to say that 5 and 6 were airburst (again for frag, but more concentration of energy beneath it).
No price is too high for freedom.
If people want to complain about the price then they can volunteer to be the ones to take out the old B-29s and do some good-old-fashioned budget bombing :v:
Money well spent.

Atleast they died for a better cause. I'd rather get blown up by american bombs than getting shot/decapitated by ISIS.

You can see bombs or missiles falling from the sky to create those secondary explosions.
However, the way the smoke comes up from the hill tells you that there was an open area inside the hill.

yeah, whenever that's mentioned I can't help but rub my neck and wonder how it must feel in those final moments as they saw through your throat.

Like 5 or 7 of them, and a flag.
Really worth it.

Somewhere in the world right now there is an arms manufacturer cackling maniacally.

5-7 guys and a heavily fortified position (which this hill was) can easily kill 50-70 guys if not more in the defense of said position. Sorry but I would gladly accept $132,000 in bombs dropped over a pointless loss of human life.

one bomb or a good sniper, maybe where that camera was sitting, could have done a decent job or at least kept them off the hill though?

Well it's good to know that we can safely justify our actions by telling ourselves that those people we killed would have been killed by ISIS anyway. Because, as we all know, ISIS has literally no objective other than just killing people.

Actually I'm pretty sure you'd be panicked and scared as missiles rain down around you, not thinking, "Well at least it's the good guys who are going to kill me, not the bad guys."
Your family members back in Raqqa too, instead our mourning and resenting the Americans for killing someone who was close to them, they'll happily conclude that it was ultimately justified, and that your death was a necessary step towards freedom and justice.
It's too bad they didn't spot all of those ground units and drop a few hellfires onto em.
Fuck being either one of those dudes

And here I was about to make a "they freedom'd the shit out of that flag" joke.
Now I feel bad.

This is our special way of letting them know "We have fuck-tons more money than you do and this is the kind of shit we spend it on. Fuck you."
