This guy makes some excellent videos on psychology, religion and logic.
I thought I'd share it with facepunch.
Gentlemen.
We have the one thing no one can accept.
I like this guy.
That was long and informative. If you can watch the whole thing you'll learn something. After about ten minutes I think my brain shut off though.
I liked all of his points. The problem I have with this kind of stuff is that my brain isn't good at storing things like this to use verbally later on. It all comes out as gibberish, even though it encompasses everything I agree with.
That was a good watch.
Showing this to a bunch my Christian friends/relatives. Really gets a point across I couldn't make well myself that this guy did perfectly.
Maybe I'll send it to some others just to piss them off, I know some that it would.
Interesting guy
Interesting idea.
You may also take it further, as to what the child does when the parent is absent.
If the child ended up being compliant towards the religion, he sees the insulting of his god nearly equal to the insulting of his parents, and feels the need to protect it as so.
Such thing happened to me. When I was in middle school it slipped into the class that I am an atheist. I was then attempted to defeat - mentally or physically, purely because of my rationality. I was nearly beaten up only because I thought differently. Seems a bit extreme, don't you think?
The fact that I'm an atheist doesn't automatically mean that I disrespect anyone who believes in god. I do respect them for their characteristics and who they are. Although, it rather pains me that they do believe in a god, but it still brings them happiness and content. The minute they turn their faith into their own rationality it's a bad idea to bring out your own belief or lack of belief, it will only make the situation worse. For both of you.
