While listening to Pandora and idely browsing the internet tonight, it came up with this song that I didn't pay too much attention too, until about halfway through the song. At about 2:30 into the song, I instantly realize I recognize the riff the song was using. It's from an old Mega Man song. From about :43. It is the exact same riff, there's no mistaking it. Right when I heard it my brain goes "that's the fuckin theme song for flame man in MM6." I'm not quite sure what to say or think about this.
I'd say he's just sampling a part of it, not really ripping it off. [editline]5th February 2012[/editline] Artists do it all the time.
yes, dubstep as a genre itself is ripping off mega man.
What.
yes, dubstep as a genre itself is ripping off mega man.
What?
Hey VillaWolf from youtube
Hey VillaWolf from youtube
Wow someone recognized me from youtube. Never thought I'd see that happen :v:
Artists do this all the time. Haven't you heard The Prodigy's song 'Minefields'? It's fucking Age of Empires man. Age of Empires! So awesome. Edit: I'm wrong, it's from a James Bond movie.
I do see the similarities, and it does seem like he copied the melody.

Still though. Good ear.
But, that first song you posted isn't even dubstep.
Still though. Good ear.
I don't call myself a music enthusiast for nothing :p
But, that first song you posted isn't even dubstep.
I didn't know what genre to label it as, I was too busy being blown away at the fact that it had mega man in it.
I didn't know what genre to label it as, I was too busy being blown away at the fact that it had mega man in it.
I'd call it House to be honest.
that is DnB not dubstep
This doesnt really sound like dubstep lol
I'd say he's just sampling a part of it, not really ripping it off. [editline]5th February 2012[/editline] Artists do it all the time.
Except its kindof using the whole melody... not just a sample
Except its kindof using the whole melody... not just a sample
So, there have been much worse samplings.
That melody is nostalgic and great. If only I could say the same for the rest of the song other than the sample. Knew I heard it somewhere. Chuckie played it in one of his live sets. Frankly sounds a lot better with all the other shit cut out.
Wait? What AoE Song did mindfields sound like?
The menu music of the first game. I swear it has to be Age of Empires, it sounds so much like it.
Whose dubstep?
Wait I'm wrong. Why does it remind me so much of Age of Empires though... [editline]6th February 2012[/editline] I just researched it and apparently It's from a James Bond movie. That was embarrassing.
wow op who gives a fuck? really? who cares? Do you know how many times I've heard certain beats in other songs that were clearly from another song? It's called "Something most, if not all musicians do". Hell I've seen the entire tune being copied before. Never heard about anyone even give a shit about that.
Yea, and Ephixa rips of Portal too.
Nothing new about bands reusing music from games. Eisenfunk had a whole album based around it, called 8-bit. For example: 30 seconds in. Guess the game.
Huh. I stand corrected. My mistake. Perhaps then let me make this a contribution to discovering another song with a game melody in it. Can anyone tell me how to change the thread title?
Ok, So? why would it matter, What are you, as a Facepunch member going to do about it? Samples are used all the time.
