Fucking cool
I saw this, right when I jumped into twitch, I nearly died.
god its going to be fun as hell if they throw in that sandbox in the retail game. Just spawning ships everywhere in SP and watch as hell unfolds.
It's in the plans to provide an in-depth modding guide and tools so people can do major modding and host their own small private servers, but I'm not sure where the sandbox tool sits as far as what we'd have access to
This game looks too good to be true.. It screams vaporware and yet somehow it's apparently legit? I don't understand how something this cool can even exist.
This game looks too good to be true.. It screams vaporware and yet somehow it's apparently legit? I don't understand how something this cool can even exist.
Star citizen is not even near vaporware status.
related [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69ck049Bg_I[/hd]
Holy shit I have a lot of catching up to do on this game. Can you land anywhere on these planets? Such as if you were getting shot down out of orbit and crash land on the nearest planet as you try to make contact with allies for a rescue?

I'm sure we'll hear more on it soon though! on the other comments: we left the potential vaporware station well over 2 years ago. It has been a rocky ride full of dry spells in updates and fumbles over deadlines (which they try to avoid dates in the first place) but damn now that a lot of the underlying tech has been ironed out they're just chugging along with tech demos and surprise reveals of content. The recent 2.0 free-flight, though slightly delayed (as always), sold a LOT of people on where it's headed If anyone wants to eat their shorts for a small price, there's a temporary deal going on- $30 gets you a starter ship, alpha/beta access, a pre-order for Squadron 42 Ep1 (AAA sized campaign, pt 1 of 3) and eventual access the ideal core of it all, the MMO-esque sandbox "persistent universe" https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Star-Citizen-Starter 3,100 left (as of this post) before this deal is over for good. $45 for the same otherwise. Compared to what I paid into ED just to see beta, this is an amazing deal and worth its price just for the curiosity. disclaimer disclaimer disclaimer buying ships isn't going to be a standard practice of how the game works- the system to do so will be shut down when alpha moves to beta and you can only earn content ingame from then on out. Owning big ships doesn't do you any good since you need to cover a LOT of operating costs between upkeep and personnel, and beyond that you'll need to work up your standings with factions and regions and whatever else to really get anything done safely. You can lose those investments pretty damn fast if you stumble out the door with it unprepared
But its never coming out
carl sagan if only you could see this now
carl sagan if only you could see this now
What does this have to do with him? I mean, i sure know who he was, but there were lots of other cool games more or less popularizing science and space exploration (i.e. 1984's Elite). Still, the fact that regular people are interested in this kind of stuff gives some hope that we're at least slowly moving into the right direction, and probably won't end up as those fat guys from Wall-e.
What does this have to do with him?
Given that he is known for his passion about space and human colonization it seems pretty obvious he'd be interested in seeing this software.

^oops I forgot to shamelessly plug [del]my[/del] everybody's referral codes! Not a lot to do right now it seemed and my computer is definitely showing its age, but I audibly said "Holy shit" more than once. And just stood at the glass in Port Olisar watching ships land and leave for a while. Seeing the gas giant was also super cool, damn.
The last time I looked at this game they presented a dogfight demo iirc that was bugging out in front of a convention audience and a lot of people were doubting them. Now I'm watching youtube videos of their 2.0 alpha and I see people taking ships and flying at quantum speed to different stations with players getting out of their ships and showing fps gameplay at the same time. Idk what else they have but seeing that and procedural generated worlds is giving all the haters a 'fuck you' and I really respect the developers for keeping at it.
Idk what else they have but seeing that and procedural generated worlds is giving all the haters a 'fuck you' and I really respect the developers for keeping at it.
A page was put up to explain what is actually playable now (fucking finally). Also, it only sort of counts currently, but separate from the game, there is also the interactive starmap which contains nuggets of lore and, when the game economy is live, will respond in near-realtime (even if it's only every 30 minutes, that's better than daily or weekly) to changing conditions. The devs also plan on having the starmap be accessible in-game from your ship's cockpit, using the same backend dataset, looking more or less like this but projected as a hologram from the HUD. the problem with the public's view of the beta is, that the beta is somehow everything they have to offer right now. They're well through a massive AAA sized (and then some) campaign with an all star cast and very little about that had ever been leaked. It took some SERIOUSLY dedicated eyes to spot a torrent file on a developer's computer screen in one of the dozens of videos they put out on a regular basis, to find out there's an entire fleet of ships (alien and otherwise) being fleshed out yet kept in the dark, and that turned a few heads on the fact development was beyond the dogfighting module. Which was cool, but also a bit spoilery. even back when halo 3 had its beta, it seemed to be common sense how it was laid out. You got access to two or three little pvp maps, and we all understood there was a much larger system in the works both for the pvp experience and the game as a whole. A big difference of course is, halo had a tried-and-true system and they were just going through the motions, while SC, ED, NMS, and others are all pushing the bleeding edge with what their tech can do and where they can go as a whole. There's a lot more experimentation and they all have the will to get it 'right'
I'm just sad that my Freelancer is still not in a flyable state.
I'm just sad that my Freelancer is still not in a flyable state.
It is with the recent PTU patch 2.1. Coming soon to your PC.
Planet reminded me of Planet Pittsburgh from Freelancer. God I can't wait for this game to be finished!
I'm just sad that my Freelancer is still not in a flyable state.
Fun fact: The old Freelancer model that's in peoples' hangars in the live build is more resource-intensive than the new Idris. This video takes place almost entirely within an Idris. And some dude on Reddit took these screenshots of the Freelancer in the PTU (test server) patch that just dropped a couple hours ago. PTU 2.1 is in limited invitation right now, but this is as PTU 2.0 and the invite waves for 2.0 went as high as ~230k people before it was ready to go to live (2.0a would crash every 5 minutes tops). Those people are taking the bullet for you and dealing with frustrating crashes so you don't have to. :downs:

Well damn, haven't been able to get in the Port Olisar server with the 2.0 missions and stuff for 3 days now. The other one works fine but there's nothing to do there. Arena commander tutorial also keeps hanging after exiting the hangar. Maybe I'll try this game again in a week which should sort out my connection issues. The promised features look promising nonetheless.

Now or later.

Star Citizen still has me confused. I know what the single player part is (Squadron 42) but the multiplayer (Star Citizen itself) has left me a bit bewildered, is it a MMO? Can you actually build stuff like bases, ships, weapons or anything?
