A southern New Jersey man is charged with murder after authorities say he used a bow and arrow to kill another after a fistfight.
Twenty-five-year-old Timothy Canfield of Berlin was charged Tuesday.
Authorities say Canfield was at his home when another resident got into a fistfight Monday night with 25-year-old Kereti Paulsen of Cape May Court House.
After the fight broke up, authorities say Paulsen was outside the home and Canfield followed him with a compound bow and a quiver of arrows.
They say Paulsen was shot in the stomach and died after the arrow tore through a vein in his pelvis.
Authorities say Canfield admitted to dumping the bow and arrows in a wooded area in nearby Winslow. He is being held at the Camden County Jail.

Imagine being the guy hit with the arrow. Fuck that would hurt.
My mother's boyfriend actually knows the victim's father, if he ever gets a chance to talk to the guy about it I'll post it.
Those compound bows have a huge amount of force behind them.. :/
Why do we need compound bows? I support a person's rights to have a regular bow, but we should have a sweeping ban on all compound bows, and even crossbows for that matter. [sp]/sarcasm[/sp]

yeah, just the thought of that makes me quiver

Compound bows don't kill tens of thousands of Americans each year afaik

that joke was a little high-strung.
Out of curiosity, and details on the bow itself? Poundage, target arrows or hunting?
I'd rather be shot by an arrow than a bullet tbh.

yeahhhhh, I dont think so.

depends on which bullet
I'd rather get shot by a bow than a hunting rifle.
I'd rather get shot by a pistol (assuming no ~hollowpoints~) than a bow.
I'd rather be shot by an arrow than a bullet tbh.
To be quite blunt, no you wouldn't. Bullets are by and large quick and clean. An arrow gets lodged in you and will hurt tremendously, and moving even a little can cause further damage. It would quite probably be the most painful thing you'd ever experience. And still be very fatal.

Bullets rip apart and lodge chunks of metal in you and leave a hole for blood to pour out.
An arrow that got lodged in you would plug the hole and stop you bleeding to death.

Bullets also send a bigass shockwave through the tissue. (hydrostatic shock)

Those are target points, regular hunting arrows look a little more like this

But they need a bow with a serious draw poundage.

That's just a double edged broadhead too, three or four edged heads are even more common, and you will bleed a LOT if you get hit by one even if you leave the arrow in there because the wound won't close and having an extra blade or two on the head only increases the chances of the arrow hitting something important turning bad bleeding into fatal bleeding within minutes if it so much as grazes an artery.
Not to mention all the muscles and ligaments that will be cut/severed should you survive, so expect long lasting even permanent injuries. I'd rather be shot really.
Getting shot with a bow and arrow is not fun. I know this from experience.
Story?
wave goodbye to yer head, wanker
but seriously though, arrow injuries are scary as fuck

I wouldn't, firearms can produce a damaging effect called hydrostatic shock when shot by a sufficiently powerful cartridge. Ever wondered why some people just drop dead before they have a chance to really bleed out when they were nailed somewhere in the torso?, basically when a round hits it creates what they call a temporary cavity, basically a bubble of force forms around the round when it hits and is more or less oxygen being forced in mixed with kenetic energy because of the high velocities. when this force encompases a section of a main arterie it compresses it, causing a massive spike of pressure in your circulatory system, creating brain aneurysms and all sorts of nasty shit. Most people drop dead on the spot, but those who do somehow survive a gunshot would that results in hydrostatic shock, are usually plauged with heart problems and sometimes even brain damage, its fucked up.
At least he didn't get shot in the knee. mafia rangers

Actually most people survive being shot rather than dropping dead like in the movies.

I know that, but I said why some drop dead, you would have be hit with something with a powerful enough cartridge and it would have to be somewhere near a main arterie, it does not happen often but it does happen and thats why id prefer getting hit with a bow and arrow than a firearm because with a firearm all you have to really do is hit near vital organs or arteries to critically damage them. Though it all depends where you get anyways.
I was working at a camp for kids. And one of the activities that was implemented into the daily routine was archery. Now these arrows weren't those heavy duty hunting ones, but they still had enough force to impale someone. So my group went to archery and the archery staff basically took over to instruct the campers about safety and supervised them while they shot, while the staff from my team entertained the rest of the campers (who were waiting their turn). One of the campers turned around with his bow strung back and ready to fire, I believe he had a question regarding if he was holding it right but my memory of the details before it happened are a little blurry. Then he let go. The arrow hit me in my lower right abdomen and pierced my appendix, luckily not hitting anything else too important. Excruciating pain, I apparently blacked out and went into surgery as soon as I got to the hospital. Had what was left of my appendix removed.
Well, at least you won't have to worry about appendicitis.

It must hurt like fuck when pulling it out of you.
It must hurt like fuck when pulling it out of you.
makes getting shot by a gun sound easy to bear
Fuck it whatever, I wrote a bunch about arrow vs. bullet wounds from what I understood from gun club and hunters, with a couple of mistakes/typos, but explaining my understandings and corrections would just make me look stubborn and overly defensive, so let's just say you don't want to get hit with anything moving with a lot of energy, arrow or bullet. Really not worth it to discuss which you would rather take.

Guess I'm gonna have to go buy a shield now. It ain't safe around these parts no more.
I would rather a 9mm bullet or shotgun pellets than an arrow any day
Have you ever seen pictures of what a shotgun will do to someone at close to medium range or even some farther ranges if the shotgun has a full choke on the barrel with buckshot or even birdshot? I dont even think I can post a picture without getting banned on how fucked up its wounds are.
And though arrows do that much damage, a bullet can and will do as much or more damage, obviously you didnt read what I posted previously about the temorary cavity bullets produce as that can do more than just produce hydrostatic shock, in some cases that temorary cavity can cause the organ's internal fluids to be compacted on the opposite side of the organ's wall where the force is projecting, causing it to potentially rupture. And god forbid if a bullet hits a limb where it contacts the skeletal structure, the bone will not break evenly, it will shatter and royally fuck it up.
I don't think you understand how much damage a firearm will really do, though bows can be just as fucked up in many cases.
What's worse with some arrows is that to actually remove it, you have to push it the rest of the way through your body, chop the arrowhead off and then pull the shaft back out the way it came. Does extra damage to you, but less if you ripped it out.

Is a truly scary as fuck hunting arrowhead.
the shaft length for an average hunting arrow ranges from 14-18 inches.
The "standard" length of arrow, is actually around 28 inches.
