The sound of shrapnel whistling by sounds awesome.
Finnish artillery stronk
The whistling sounds like something straight out of a 1940s war flick.
Holy crap that is intense.
thats even scarier than I thought
King of battle.
the whistling noises remind me of duke nukem 3d for some reason
I'm ripping the audio for sound effects in videos, really good stuff!

Oh cool, saving just in case or for a project of yours?
If anything, the finnish military make good artillery videos.
We fucking love our artillery
The artillery the video was 130mm heavy field howitzer M-46, licensed and build in Finland under the name of 130 K 54. It's mostly used by the Coastal Guard these days now.
Here's a video of such gun in action, the start is long and you can hear the spotter giving coordinates with radio.

Voice acting reel, I wanted to get some Saving Private Ryan military stuff in there with the wizards and crazy lunatic criminals.
It's scary that they strike so fast. After the first one hits you don't even have time to shit yourself

The 130 K 54 has quite a high velocity, so you won't hear the telltale howling of flying rounds coming at you.
Heh i was in same exercise last year as self-propelled artillery driver. Only time i saw the explosions there was when we were doing direct fire exercise on to old T-55 hulls.

Oh cool, how accurate were they against the tanks?

Uh, no you don't, that's Finlands property.
Oh cool, how accurate were they against the tanks?
Well depending on how good gunner there is that can actually use the direct fire sights properly then it can be quite accurate to 500 meters if the target doesn't move. We shot from something like 300m and i saw quite many targets get blown away. Yeah we also had cardboard targets there.
I was expecting the sound of thousands of charging Russians after the explosions.
Oh man, I could hear the voice in my head.
SUOJAAAAAN!!
I don't hear any whistling what is everyone talking about?
You seriously don't hear any whistling sound at all?
he probably has a different idea of what counts as whistling
During my service, we could hear the actual "shells" flying past us, ripping the air.
The army may have sucked, but it sure gave you cool sights you'd never see as a civilian.
Imagine the sound with professional sound recording equipment. I know I would never put the equipment in there myself but oh boy listening to that in headphones. Scary.

Those were professional sound recording equipment and sturdy ones at it too; They continued recording even after near direct-hit without a hitch.
if you think that sounds scary, then take a look at this

And to think each of those cute little chirp-like whistles is a piece of superheated metal flying at you at supersonic speeds.
I closed my eyes and tried to pretend I was in a German Trench in World War I.
Jesus Fuck, that was terrifying for the mere minute it lasted. I mean, I heard the first barrage let loose, knowing it would come down, but I wasn't expecting it. Every time a round hit, I flinched if it sounded close, just on impulse. When there would be pauses, I started to think "maybe it is over" and then BAM! One hits right next to me.
It is terrifying. I mean, just putting myself in that position for a minute was enough, and some of these guys had to deal with 12 straight hours of bombardment.
I wish I couldn't imagine what that feels like, but I just did.
There was a similar video that I can't find that was posted on Facepunch, but it was a video of a camera behind a dirt wall being suppressed by an MG42. It was really fascinating and I can't find it :c
Those are some tough cameras.
