Portland residents panic as men armed with assault weapons ‘educate’ the city
Two men walked the streets of Portland armed with assault weapons earlier this week because they said they wanted to “educate” residents, who reacted by fleeing and calling police.
Warren Drouin and Steven Boyce told KPTV that they were forced to take drastic measure to make sure people were aware of their Second Amendment rights after 20 children in Connecticut were massacred with same type of AR-15 rifles they were carrying.
“We’re not threatening anyone,” Drouin explained. “We don’t have that type of criminal behavior.”
“This happens to open that line of communication, to let people know that you can defend yourself in a time of crisis or any time that you want to,” Boyce added.
But KPTV’s Kaitlyn Bolduc reported that the demonstration created a “state of panic” in Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood.
“Employees inside of E Hair Studio hid in the back of the salon and locked there doors, while other ran for help for fear the two were really there to cause harm,” Bolduc said.
Police spoke to Drouin and Boyce and said the conceal-carry permit holders had not broken any laws.
The men insisted that they understood that people were on edge after recent mass shootings but hoped residents would approach them to ask questions during future demonstrations.
“We did mind the school posting signs,” Boyce pointed out. “We don’t don’t want to cause any trouble with that. We totally respect — there is a little bit of emotional sensitivity towards that and it’s just — we were walking the streets.”

GG, you just made shit worse.
This is just two guys trying to incite shit.
Actually if I saw a guy with a rifle like that, and I love guns, I would immediately suspect something is up and contact the police.
Retarded people doing retarded things.
God dammit, they didn't walk around with "assault weapons," they walked around with AR-15s. The whole "assault weapon" thing needs to stop. On the other hand, these guys were pretty dumb to do this. I appreciate what they're trying to accomplish, but with all the recent fearmongering regarding military-style rifles (and the legitimate fears too, I wouldn't approach a guy carrying a rifle around the city) this wasn't the way to go.

Certain states have what we call a Open Carry law which is for long rifles. CCP/CCH Licenses are mostly for pistols.
Just because you can do it does not mean you should, anyone with a brain knows that lugging a AR15 on your back and walking around is going to cause a problem. Specially after all the media coverage and shootings.
Good idea, Horrible execution.
I respect what they're trying to do and prove, but they came at it completely wrong.

In Minnesota it's just a carry permit. I can have my pistol concealed or in my holster for the world to see. Same goes for rifles and shotguns.
That's pretty stupid. How did they expect people to react any differently? That's like going to the prom wielding a knife and wondering why you didn't pick up a date

They don't need CCW for rifles, if it's exposed and made known you have a rifle already it's ok because it's an open carry state, but they still needed to have the firearm safe to travel with. Fucking idiots not taking the magazines out.

That's such a weak loophole.
Edited: lol, butthurt gun owners.
They just wanted to be friends. :(
That's such a weak loophole.
Explain. What do you mean by loophole?
That's such a weak loophole.
loophole?
Assault weapon is a made up term by some dumb cunt who didn't know what she was talking about to begin with

People in the media talk in the way most people can understand, and their accuracy is always perfunctory. That's never going to change, no point in complaining about it
Assault weapon is a made up term by some dumb cunt who didn't know what she was talking about to begin with
and which "dumb cunt" would that be
as far as I know the term's origins lie in the media, not with one person
If people don't like it then don't pass an Open Carry law. I personally like the open carry law, not because I can walk around like John Wayne, but because You don't have to worry about your gun becoming visible, which can be considered brandishing, in a state that doesn't allow open carry.
It's bullshit that if you bend down to pick something up and your gun sticks out a little, and some flake calls the police and you get some Rookie by the books officer that it can (And has before) lead to an arrest for brandishing.
People walking around with weapons like these on their back just to walk the streets is dumb and doesn't make much of a statement, but at the same time, people freaking out like they were over it is equally as dumb
They should have done it with AK-74's instead. The media would be all over them.
Unless I have the wrong school shooting(That I should even have to say this is not a good sign) the rifle wasn't even used in the attack.

"The muslamic communist freedom hating terrorists are here"
Anyway, In my opinion, open carry firearms is a pretty shit idea, it just causes people to shit themselves and call the police and all sorts of crap to happen.
Concealed carry is fine though.

she?
why does it automatically have to be a woman who started it
Silly, they should have not kept any magazines at all, had more than just two people in this "gathering" they made, carried signs to let people know they are protesting the bans (so they don't freak out), and notified the police ahead of time so they don't freak out.

Honestly I'd rather open carry be allowed and concealed carry be against the law. Its better for the police to know what a man has or does not have on him. People shitting themselves is their own fault for being uninformed of their local/state law.
So what if people feel scared?
People being afraid shouldn't affect other people's liberties.
If they want to walk around carrying guns lawfully, then so be it.

Why does it matter that the police know who has a weapon?
Why does it matter that the police know who has a weapon?
Because I think they should. They're police and are thus there to serve and protect.
