Not so much power as misuse of trust in this case I feel. People tend to have a certain degree of trust towards physicians and nurses that they usually won't have towards other people.
In any case, this is why potassium is never administered to correct deficiencies without being diluted in saline first.

I'm not going to say this is definitely what happened, but doesn't it sound a lot like this person wanted power and also some way to use it? She was in such a position of unrecognized power that she started viewing herself above everyone else, and started killing people off just as a petty excuse to use that power. Part of the annoyance was the lack of recognition for herself, so she started killing people.
