The last time an Abra or Alakazam card was printed, Abra had a special move to evolve directly into Alakazam. It is also noteworthy that Kadabra is also missing from the sidegame Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, while both Abra and Alakazam did.

A similar case is present with the entire Porygon line. After the seizure incident with "Electric Soldier Porygon", not a single member of it's like have appeared in the anime outside of a few movie openings that briefly showcase all Pokemon in existance.
