oh god, I remember watching this and laughing when it first came out. I wonder what the dude in the video thinks now of this
Is it bad that 12 hours doesn't seem that long to me? I feel like nowadays long gaming marathons are more common.
I've been playing on the new elysium vanilla wow server and it blows my mind how anybody could have become addicted to this game so far it's literally nothing but an animal murdering simulator with item delivery quests sprinkled on top. I can't believe people actually payed 15 dollars a month for it

At first the game is quite dull at the beginning in Vanilla but it's after level 20 up to level 60 thats the bread and butter of the game.
I'm glad that vitriolic shit like this isn't being churned out by news outlets anymore. It seems 2003-2007 saw nothing but this kind of lazy and useless """"reporting"""". Video games are the equivalent of "rock and roll is SATANS music!!!!!", older generations just not understanding what the newer generations like. I'd honestly rather know my child is at the very least socializing and building some kind of relationship while sitting at a computer for hours on end than be sitting by themselves playing a single player game. At least with games like WoW and other popular MMOs of the time, the people who became "addicted" to them had the opportunity to meet people from allover the fucking world. And if they played the game for more than an hour a day, got into some interesting conversations with them. Guilds and such were literally treated like family for people who really got into the game, and I don't understand how something like that can be considered deluded and bad. MAKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE YOU'VE NEVER MET IS BAD GUYS. There are people on my Steam friends list from 2006. I still talk to them to this day and in fact a lot of them I follow on places like Facebook or LinkedIn. I remember joining a forum in 2005 and the people I met there I still talk to as well. I consider a lot of my friends from that time just that, friends. They've stuck around a hell of a lot longer with me than a lot of the people I've met through school. I do think it hits a point where it's genuinely "too much", but if they're enjoying it and they're very clearly socializing, I don't see what the problem is. It'd be one thing if the dude was doing that stupid lewd RP cybersex shit (or worse, playing second life), but getting pissed off at games is something that just happens, especially for a 16 year old. TBH I'd rather have my 16 year old kid punch a wall because he got mad at a video game, then realize he fucked up because his hand now hurts, instead of going out and punching an actual human being over something equally stupid. Video games are the "sex drugs and rock and roll" of the early 2000's, plain and simple. It's a stupid way to view it, and I'm glad that now this shit isn't being pushed anymore. Good fucking riddance.

Playing WoW vanilla was magical because it was a combination of things. My age, friend group, the games that were out at the time. I hardly think I'd have as much fun running into plaguelands while exploring at level 10 or walking to every dungeon after spending 3 hours on LFG as a dps. Still though those memories will be with me. What pissed me off was the removal of spell ranks and talents though. I'm a sucker for incremental upgrades and I really enjoyed the talent tree. Even spell ranks added something to look forward to between levels. They did get a lot of other things right with time.
Is it bad that 12 hours doesn't seem that long to me? I feel like nowadays long gaming marathons are more common.
12 hours isn't that bad. It just depends on how many breaks you take, and how often they are.
It's sad but parent's always blame the game when in reality its an underlying issue and the game is just a way to escape it the video games aren't the issue, it's something completely different but of course parents will blame anything but themselves or their kid just having problems at school/work. [editline]28th January 2017[/editline]
I agree, however I think that his behavior of destroying things due to happenings in game is not healthy at all.
I've had anger issues too. Destroying (worthless things) or punching a bag can be a really good way to vent. It's way better than taking it out on someone that completely doesn't deserve it. I've heard of cops who use punching bags to get anger out, and then there are some people smoke meth and kill kittens to vent anger I mean, there could be far worse ways to do it. It's really just about avoiding or dealing with what angers you.

Then if you can make it through that incredibly boring, mind-destroying slog, you can finally do the endgame content, which is pretty good if you get in a guild who actually care about it.
wonder what this kid is up to nowadays

They're great ways to blow off steam, and learn to handle stress (Even emotion in general). Of course there's more to it, but generally they're pretty damn useful.

God those ventrillo sounds are oddly nostalgic
God those ventrillo sounds are oddly nostalgic
I feel like I really missed out on being social when I played WoW in the early days. Then again, I was a 12 year old with the voice of a mouse.
