The defeat is the latest skirmish between lawmakers and the Utah GOP Central Committee in the war over the SB54 compromise, which was adopted in 2014. More on that in a minute. Last week, the Utah House overwhelmingly supported the bill sponsored by Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck, D-Salt Lake City. HB349 would allow voters to rank their choice of candidates in primary elections with more than three candidates. If the voters first choice is eliminated, and none of the remaining candidates won a majority, the second choice is counted and on down the ballot until a majority winner is determined. This Ranked Choice Voting proposal was at the center of some "palace intrigue" on Utah's Capitol Hill. Early in this year's session, the Senate brought forward SB114, sponsored by Sen. Curt Bramble, which provided for a mail-only runoff election in primary elections with four or more candidates, and none of them got 35% of the vote.
Did your autocorrect have an aneurysm or something?
That's his normal writing.

Haza the system worked! to insulate the incumbents that is.
Can we stop giving Chad shit for his writing? He does his best. Thanks. On topic, is there no way the people of Utah can make this a re-election issue for both parties? Hell, how many people from Utah are actually aware of this and supported it?

But yea, Let just move on from it.
I don't know how many FPers live in Utah but now would be a good time to write some very angry letters.
Bill was killed by David P Hinkins (District 27: central eastern Utah: Emery County, etc.), Margaret Dayton (District 15: Pleasant Grove, Orem, Provo), and Daniel W. Thatcher (District 12: Western west valley). If you live in any of these places, your representatives are the ones who stopped this bill. Their contact information follows: D. Hinkins: http://senate.utah.gov/senators/district27.html M. Dayton: http://senate.utah.gov/senators/district15.html D. Thatcher: http://senate.utah.gov/senators/district12.html
well utah republicans have a long history of shifting voting lines at a whim to gerrymander the fuck out of their elections so this is pretty much par for the course.
