This means custom game modes and community hosted servers in the near future, also custom maps.
FiveM is a planned multiplayer modification for Grand Theft Auto V which, much in the lines of popular modifications in the past, offers an advanced multiplayer environment for people to play on dedicated servers with user-made game modes. It builds on the solid multiplayer framework set by the Rockstar Studios themselves as part of the RAGE engine, which has gone through rigorous testing since its first release in 2008, adding high-level customizability features.
An initial release is expected within 2 months of the release of the Windows version of GTA V itself, which will feature all the essential features one will need, such as the lovely features listed below.
Unlike the primary offering for multiplayer included with GTA V, FiveM relies on dedicated servers for connecting players to one another. This eliminates any connection issues that can, will and have occurred in the past trying to connect a session filled with players to one another.
FiveM also distinguishes itself from GTA:Online by allowing not only custom levels consisting of placed objectives around the existing map, but also allowing large-scale scripting of game modes, extension scripts and nearly anything imaginable. And, as the game itself gets researched further and further, the possibilities will only grow.
However, modifications aren't limited to custom scripts and custom levels - once art asset export tools release, FiveM will be able to stream your content dynamically to players on your server. Unlike some modifications in the past and present, these streaming assets will load only when required, allowing players to play nearly instantly without having to await large downloads. Even more so, as the streaming system is inherited from the game itself, it supports anything the game does!
Code-based resources will be able to be created using well-known languages and tools - dynamic and simple scripting with Lua or advanced and tool-assisted programming with any primary .NET language (such as C#). It's your choice! All environments interoperate with one another freely, and usable and clean APIs are offered for both languages. In fact, you might already be familiar with the calls in either API used from earlier GTA scripting toolsets.
Initial releases will have a player cap equal to the GTA: Online cap - 32 players; as more optimizations are made to the modified game engine these limits will be expanded eventually. One also does not have to worry about feeling alone, as outside of your 30+ opponents, partners or co-conspirators, the world will also be filled with the AI vehicles, pedestrians and perhaps even animals you know and love from classical GTA!
FiveM also builds on years of experience maintaining a popular 'game enhancement' project for a popular first-person shooter game series, namely the infamous 'alterIWnet' and 'fourDeltaOne' projects. People familiar with these modifications will also know of a varied set of anti-cheating measures which will most likely get rid of a higher percentage of cheaters than Rockstar will in the game itself on PC. :-)
He made the CitizenMP mod for GTAIV too, that's how this got done so quickly

Nothing to do with Multi Theft Auto.

Didn't know what to call it since I can't call it GTA:Online, SAMP/MTA successor I suppose.
Oh no, people will now play the unlimited fun version of multiplayer without paying for shark cards
better send a sieze and desist
imagine if someone remade the san andreas dayz mod

I think you mean "cease and desist".
I would not be surprised if they did.

It'd be awesome and it'd be more fun and more functional than the standalone version.

seize and desist sounds way cooler tho
Looks exactly like normal multiplayer to me
what am i missing? what does this allow you to do?

The difference is people can run their own servers in FiveM, put mods on them for different gamemodes, and players don't have to deal with the headaches of peer-to-peer.

this is not GTA:O, this is GTA V with multiplayer, AKA singleplayer with multiplayer.
there are some differences, GTAO uses simplified physics, and it's P2P
Oh, so it's basicily a more streamlined version of MP?
Holy shit this is great news.
Why is there a GTA IV video in the OP?
Why is there a GTA IV video in the OP?
because gtaV's map was ported back to gta IV for use with mp there too
Oh, so it's basicily a more streamlined version of MP?
So far it's really nothing big, but it's potentially a non-shit version of mp

Think of it as GMod to HL2 (but not just yet).
It allows custom game modes to be wrote, and custom content to be used server side and also uses dedicated servers.
GTA5 online would be fun to play if it just had a normal lobby system instead of me waiting 5 minutes to cycle a attempt to connect to a game because it has to load from a world hub.
Gets really frustrating when those attempts fail half the time cause of unknown reasons.
Honestly I see this as a completely separate entity than GTA:O.
Plus it adds atleast some level of extended life to multiplayer once Rockstar drops GTA:O support.
Only time will tell if they'll C&D or not (Most likely C&D with regards to their response to other mods).
if theres wildlife in this mp ill get my acc banned just to play this
I just want a zombie outbreak gamemode

It allows you to actually play the game online, unlike R*'s multiplayer.
I apologize for my mild ignorance, but does it conflict with Rockstars statement about their anti-mod bullshit? I don't want to get banned.
I just want to see crazy bobs cops and robbers remade in GTA:V, if anyone even remembers that.

If this turns out better than GTA:O, I wouldn't care if I got banned from it.
Though I would be extremely pissed if they started banning singleplayer as well.

Well now you know Rockstar ain't gonna have non of that shit.
Reminds me of my old days playing SA:MP.
That was fun as hell.

now i am totally uninformed on the legal way this works so i might be completely wrong but can it receive a C & D if the developers don't make a profit off it / you need GTA V to play it anyway?
Been waiting on this shit since GTAIV was released on PC, nice to see it's finally happening... and quickly too... if R* don't be dicks about it.

You've been waiting for GTAV multiplayer before you even knew GTAV was a thing?
