"The show is going no where " Ain't that the fucking truth. The episode where steven gets that key from lion's mane Spends the entire episode looking for the door it unlocks Lion takes him to a new location, somewhere he's never been before and he finds the door... He opens it AND... It's an ACTUAL dumping ground with nothing on interest except a VHS Doesn't even have fucking walls, he could just walk round it. But the VHS, SURELY there must be SOMETHING on it... He spent the entire episode questioning himself, asking about what is destiny and what it means to be "him" but it contains no information, nothing that could drive a story, we already got the character development from the travel, now he's reached his destination he needs something new, something to point to somewhere ELSE so he can walk that road next (metaphorically) Naaaah all the video contains is what his name would have been if he was born a girl.
Reposting this from the SU thread:
Didn't watch the whole thing but in a lot of parts it sounded more like someone trying to project their own views and ask for it to be like other shows without realizing that SU would seriously lose a lot if it tried to be anything else now. Those attempts at cherrypicking "plotholes" were also pretty badly done too.
she also did a two hour livestream responding to people criticizing the video with her friend.
[del]The channel also uploaded a 2 AND A HALF HOUR "Rebuttal Response" video just a day ago if anybody's into that stuff.[/del] :ninja: I'm not emotionally invested in hearing this long-winded rant.
I have done my best to avoid all fandoms and endless praise/criticism media of the show, and I watched it for what it is. I think it's a fun, light-hearted cartoon with interesting characters and cool plot elements. It's not perfect, but I surely couldn't think of 40 minutes worth of topics to rant about.
I don't really have much to say about this. I agree with everything she said. I love this show, but damn are the flaws glaring sometimes. [sp]Especially the "Rose didn't shatter Pink Diamond" part. If that's not a red herring and an actual thing, then I'll be just about as pissed as possibly I can be with a kids show, because that's bullshit.[/sp]
Reposting this from the SU thread:
yeah they literally point out that they're being nitpicky and hyberbolic for humor in the first minute or so, of course the video is going to be "cherrypicking" or whatever
I really really tried to like this show but between the hiatuses and the fucked pacing I just lost all interest after the cluster part.
I really really tried to like this show but between the hiatuses and the fucked pacing I just lost all interest after the cluster part.
I wanted to like it, but I couldn't stand Steven. I liked every other character, but man Steven himself was grating.
I wanted to like it, but I couldn't stand Steven. I liked every other character, but man Steven himself was grating.
Steven grows the fuck up eventually It just takes forever
Imagine talking about steven universe for more than 10 minutes.
Imagine talking about steven universe for more than 10 minutes.
how DARE people care about things
The point not even addressed by this is Sugar already reached what SU is really about with the YD arc, all that's really left is ending the story properly for everybody they've introduced and giving them closure/their moment of individual awesome. CN doesn't know what do with the show because as a marketing and merchandise tool it never took off the way they wanted it to, and as it turns out tumblr fame really doesn't mean jack shit in any truly significant way (what a shocking shock) and apparently even Sugar doesn't know what to do with the show in terms of finding where to put things in a mode to where things can end "naturally" like she planned to initially, so what we end up is basically like what happened with Adventure Time after the Marceline/Kill Bill mini-thing where the show just kind of meanders with the "______ learns about _____" theme while occasionally moving half assed towards an ending arc.
Imagine talking about steven universe for more than 10 minutes.
Imagine typing down 10 words with 63 characters about someone talking about Steven Universe for more than 10 minutes.
Steven grows the fuck up eventually It just takes forever
Even in later seasons I'm not fond of Steven's character. The show would've really benefited if we could see the perspectives of different characters instead of having to stick with Steven through every waking moment. I know that was an intentional artistic decision, but it gets boring.
I tried SU once. The theme song drove me insane with how awful it was, and I didn't like any of the characters in the actual show, so I've never really gotten the huge craze over it. Just seemed like an average children's show to me? [sp]then again i used to be into mlp[/sp]
She hits it right on the head.... I can't even watch out of pleasure anymore, I'm just more annoyed with every passing episode.

The stuff before is mainly world and character building

It's the rare type of show that I really like but can't recommend to anyone because it doesn't get good until 25 episodes in.
It's the rare type of show that I really like but can't recommend to anyone because it doesn't get good until 25 episodes in.
It's hard to recommend when no one knows when a new episode drops.
It's hard to recommend when no one knows when a new episode drops.
It really is bothersome that the series just had some huge twists and reveals [sp]not to mention a character death and revival with massive implications[/sp] and then it immediately entered hiatus for a third of a year, the longest yet.
