Windows 95 and 98 would probably fit right into Portal 1 or Mirror's Edge.
They're reminiscent of Spyro 2's ambient music in the worlds. Pretty cool.

This is what I mean.

God, hearing that music instantly brings back childhood memories.
Stuff like this is why I like the Paulstretch filter in Audacity, makes some really interesting sounding stuff. I didn't know it was seperate to Audacity though
This wouldn't be out of place on a Brian Eno album, I love it. Music for Windows pls.
I once did this but with the PS1 start up sound! Let me go find it!
god XP sounds good

Using PaulStretch's Shorten mode on unedited music tracks produces an interesting effect.
Is this analogue?
I used to have a really neat program that would allow you to make slow motion sounds like these, sadly I cannot remember what it's called. Now I want to try it on some stuff.
edit: Oh shit I found it I think http://hypermammut.sourceforge.net/paulstretch/
yep that's the one.
huh I think it can go a bit overboard with how much you can stretch stuff.

I remember I once found something on Tumblr which was Macklemore's Thrift Shop with each beat (either of the lyrics or the whole song, think it was the latter) stretched out. The first line sounded something like "I'm-pop-stags". I don't know if that was painstakingly handmade but it didn't sound like Paulstretch, it didn't have the same artefacts.

Wow, how big would the sound file be?
Pretty far out
If you guys liked this (the Vista one in particular), you might like this.
It's Robert Fripp experimenting with weird reverb/processing stuff to make really "fresh"/peaceful sounds when composing the sound for Windows Vista.

There's chatter in it but it's some pretty calming stuff.
Wow, how big would the sound file be?
It'd probably crash before you ever found out. I'd guess it'd try to calculate it then hang because the number will inevitably become too big for the program/memory.

Pretty cool as well. Added this to OP. I like how these short themes resemble ambient film scores when slowed down in this manner.
Sounds like the godmode music in Simcity 4.
Is that first one sampled by Blank Banshee?
of course, what else would that be? lol
Man, paulstretch is the fucking best!
Fun fact: Even BioWare started using this stuff in their games when they heard fans manipulating Mass Effect songs, here's the team selection music for ME3, which is Uncharted Worlds (galaxy map music from ME1) slowed down 600%.

They used this sort if thing in the latest Dragon Age too, slowing down Dragon Age 1 songs.

They also did an alternate version that wasn't used in the game but exists in the files.

If these were re-sped up back to like 2000% and maybe looped or cut up just a bit these would fit straight in to Homeworld.

holy shit
Just spent the last few minutes playing about with that Paulstretch, it's pretty cool. I'd recommend something with a relatively fast tempo and note variation, and stretching it 7x. The Deus Ex theme is particularly awesome, or would be if it weren't for the snares being a bit too loud
I made a thing out of the Windows 7 Login sound
wah-wah, paulstretch, reverb, paulstretch again

This is really fun to play with
The windows 98 one is beautiful
I could imagine it because used in an epic film like interstellar or something
Gamecube sounds... interesting...

Oh God the PSP. I did both the system start theme and the jingle when you start a game as well.
