The conversation ends around a minute and a half in and it continues on with general ATC chatter.
I was expecting worse.
What I find amazing is how that plane needed to burn 800 pounds of fuel before take off, seems so inefficient
How nerve wracking it'd be to have a translation problem with ground control while trying to land.
man listening to ATC comms is really fun, it's like those ARMA videos ShacTac make

800 pounds of fuel is a drop in the bucket when you're dealing with big planes, which carry somewhere in the hundreds of thousands of pounds of fuel.
it seemed like a very slight misunderstanding
whatever these guys are getting paid, it's still not enough
imagine the stress of being ground controller at a high-traffic airport

pretty sure these guys only work for an hour at a time so they don't explode.

Do they actually just burn 800lb of jet fuel? Even as a drop in the bucket, that's ridiculous. Does anybody know if this is true or not? I have a hard time believing they can't just siphon it into storage in the same amount of time, nor that the EPA or whoever regulates air-transport emissions is okay with that.
This is why they burn fuel, it's not as bad as it sounds. Did he need to dump the fuel before takeoff, or was he waiting to land?
Also, Koreans are so fucking polite. I had a few Korean friends in uni last year and they're just the best
I've heard of dumping fuel before landing, but never before takeoff.
Did they miscalculate during refueling or something?

Pilots have to calculate how much fuel they need. They have to take into account how much they need for the trip, how busy the airport is and how much time they'll be taxiing, whether they're flying VFR or IFR and during the day or night changes how much reserves they're required by law to have, A bit extra to account for delays, and they have to remain under the Max Takeoff weight so they can safely stop in time should the need arise, or not run out of runway and crash without ever lifting off. Then god help you if you have to calculate pounds to kilograms after you make the calculations, or vice versa. Though this is far easier to do now without making a mistake. This step resulted in a plane running out of fuel and gliding a long ass fucking way to land on an island
You can make fuel last, though. You enter a 3 digit number into the FMC called the Cost Index and that'll basically control how much fuel the plane can use in flight. Lower number, less fuel. Also results in a slower flight, though
800 pounds over max takeoff weight isn't much with large planes and probably wouldn't make a difference really with a plane like a 747 or 767, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. You don't want to be a career pilot caught taking off exceeding your max take off weight
Man, watching this makes me have even more respect to my father who is a pilot
guess this is why he made me learn English when I was so young
