[sp]The Nihilanth was holding open the portal between Xen and Earth, but it was also keeping the Combine out of Xen. When Gordon kills the Nihilanth, the Combine are able to enter Xen, and then they tunnel through the portals created by the resonance cascade to start attacking Earth. So in this ending, the Nihilanth is never killed, meaning the Combine never get in to Xen and never get to Earth. Now, what will happen with the Nihilanth living however is tough to say.[/sp]
