I like where their headed with the new sound (showing a lot more influence), but just about everyone else unanimously hates it.
clean vocals ew
I'm not the kind of person that hears cleans and immediately turns off but those were not good. Gotta be honest, I really don't like it all that much. The opening to the cleans is terrible, and the rest of them are ok-ish but they don't really belong in a Suicide Silence song to me. It's showing an influence of bands like Korn and such, and I just miss the pure Deathcore with Slam influence they used to have instead.
I don't hate change, and I love diversity in my metal genres, as well as respecting other people's musical interests, but I just don't like THIS particular change for my listening when it comes to SS. And that was another installment of some guy rambling on the internet, thanks for watching.
P.S. Phil Bozeman will forever be the one who did the best performance at their concert when he did Unanswered with them holy SHIT.
Before I ask this I should point out that I was never hugely into SS, when they were really popular around here I was listening to everything from August Burns Red to Job for a Cowboy to Whitechapel and Architects and dozens of other bands in varying genres from the lightest post-hardcore like Greeley Estates or From Autumn to Ashes, to brutal deathcore like All Shall Perish or As Blood Runs Black, I only really liked some of Suicide Silence's songs and didn't follow them too long after that.. Wow. All that took me straight back to 2008.
Anyway, the question I have is: Do people really like that a deathcore band is taking nu-metal influences? Because I hear a lot of Korn and similar bands in this. I don't like the sound at all personally.
If it were up to me I'd rather have their old sound back, but it died with Mitch. Eddie does a great job but his musical direction is a lot different especially coming from All Shall Perish. While this song isn't the greatest, if they are going to head in this direction i'm choosing to remain cautiously optimistic about the full release.

The short answer for pretty much everyone is no, but there have been a handful of bands to pull it off really well. Most notably for me are The Last Ten Seconds of Life who also just had a newly released album and they do a pretty good job of blending the two imo(not too much not too little).

I hear stolen riffs and clean vocals. I guess they really lost it.

As someone who just now developed some respect for Korn after hating nu-metal for several years, I have to say that this isn't bad at all.
Though I feel like nu-metal influencing deathcore is nothing new, Born Of Osiris's The Discovery has some very Linkin Park-esque passages and it's one of the best albums of the last decade.
Was anybody else expecting a cover of Earl Sweatshirt's Doris?
I honestly think this is pretty terrible, but it's still leagues above most of the others in the -core genre.
