In this vid, you see it walks fine, but later on when they have it climbing the cinderblocks, it harnessed in case something goes wrong.
Jesus christ imagine being chased by one of those things once its more developed.
The fact that they can outrun the fastest human now is actually rather scary.
They're planning to do an untethered test in 2013

That is creepy as fuck
Listening to the audio without the video is well...a completely different experience.
if i was walking down the street and saw this shit charging me i'd be mortified
I can only imagine the second part of 'Prime time of your life' playing while that thing is running.
That thought is scary as fuck as it is.

The only way to rectify this is to put it in a giant puppy suit and make it tackle and lick people to death. And it will be adorably terrifying.

Imagine driving one of those to work.
I don't see the point in this since it doesn't look like a tech that leaves place for improvements. What I want to say is, they keep upgrading the same design, which will become obsolete when we will find powerful portable energy sources.
Edit:
What about self balancing legs? (much like human/animal legs)
Only difference between this thing and Usain Bolt is that this takes forever to speed up.
Still, p cool.
They all have the blinking light, it only adds to the terror.

Make that bullet/shock proof and you got a perfect minesweeper.

It wouldn't be that scary at all, it's only around 2-3 feet tall, it's not like it's an actual cheetah. Also what would it do to you? There's no reason to be scared :v:

I know I said this a few years ago when this vid was new, but this looks like something straight from the Metal Gear Solid universe.
I've always seen the cheetah project to be a bit pointless when compared to how much more advanced bigdog is, I mean cheetah is constantly prone to falling over and ripping its self to bits while bigdog has demonstrated its a much more capable unit that can transverse uneven terrain and automatically rebalance its self at a somewhat reasonable pace.
I guess it's just progress so in the end they can combine the two but it still makes me wonder.
