man i would be scared shitless good thing they had those cement guardrails or they wouldnt have had anything to slow them down
They did exactly what you should do. Foot off the accelerator and find the nearest safest 'object' to use to slow you down aka crash into (*note they're on a slope).
If they had a manual car they could have braked using gears...

It's not really pretentious. It's just true.

I'd avoid any automotive forums. Most people are extremely pretentious about driving a manual. It's like they have a stick up their ass.

Depending on the automatic and speed you can brake (or at least slow down) by using the L1/2/3 low gear selection in combination with disabling the overdrive. Some cars will automatically shift from 1-2 even when "1" is selected, though. It'd be pretty damaging to the car if done at speed, as well.

Stick shift to be exact.

There was a flame war on SH or something a long time ago over that. "What the fuck you americans can't drive stick it's how we learn to drive u fucking lazy cunts typical americans" Funny stuff.

thanks, we got it.
I'm assuming the emergency brake also failed in the video ?

what if you forced it into reverse?

the triple snotdots make it pretentious, not the statement itself
its just weird that its the first time ive seen someone being snobby about it, it seems like something drivers would be yacking about all the time. but every time i've talked to someone that uses standard transmission they've just went "yeah its fun and cheaper" instead of shaming people.

Yep, this is true. In fact when I took my in-car driving lessons the instructor taught me how to do it by having me throw the the car into a lower gear when going down hills. It actually works rather well and while it won't bring you to a full stop it should slow you down enough to buy you some time to plan your next move.

I was making a joke about the "Stick in ass joke." (IE the stick being a stick shift)
Guess it went over peoples head.
Probably just me here but I prefer manual over automatic because I like to feel like I'm driving the car, not the car driving me. There's something subtly satisfying about sliding a car into gear and feeling it catch.

I thought I heard him yank it and it didn't do dick

hahahahaaha
dude, you replied to a joke with the exact same joke, and when people give you a "yeah thats the joke" you blame them for missing the joke.
gold
what if you forced it into reverse?
Newish cars (last ~20 years, AFAIK) will just ignore your gear selection until you slow down to a reasonable speed - which for reverse, will be around 0mph. :v:
Older cars that don't have a computer monitoring the gear selection will stall the engine and possibly ruin the transmission in the process. You'd be better off doing the standard engine braking rather than mashing it into reverse.

There was a dude in Automotive Addicts that actually said "drive a fucking stick or don't drive at all you lasy ass fat fucks"
Freaking stuff, at least no one got seriously injured.

There's nothing pretentious about advocating the use of engine braking to bring a vehicle to a safe stop when the main brakes do not work.
