Try this, create the painting in photoshop, then cut out the bits between the buildings. Copy, Paste.
I assume that you just don't have any exposure to how this type of thing is done, but having worked in advertising and seen this done many, many times... I must tell you that it really isn't that difficult.

You are right, I am an IT major, with absolutely no knowledge on art, illustrations, or Photoshop.
Though, I don't understand how copy and paste would play into them painting it on a building.
If it was a giant sticker it would make more sense in that context.
But, oh-well.
