You have to be joking. Holy shit.

This is actually pretty cringy.

I imagined EVERYHTING when I heard "Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem"... EXCEPT this... not in my keenest dreams I would have thought that "this" would be the result.
why is this a thing
Atlus why did you do this
I remember being really excited when I heard about a Fire Emblem and SMT crossover.
Atlus probably knowing that they took so long to the extent that Persona 5 is announced and 2 SMT IV games existing that they just cut their losses. calling it Genei Ibun Roku #FE is just cauterizing a potential wound, yet they've used it before they jumped ship into making the Persona series, its just trying to keep face due to being so hyped. it doesn't even help that Persona already has Social Links and some FE games already has child units as the result of parents having high ranks.
The ghosts themselves doesn't even look like the characters they represent. but really, besides the weapon system and the ghosts, is there anything that's actually connecting to Fire Emblem? because to me it seems a bit Persona-like. you'd think hey maybe they'd have a turn-based strategy spinoff involving human units, or maybe Demi-fiend Lords with sporadic-unique units with a SMT spin on things like moon phases, bargaining, fusion and ALIGNMENT. Persona utilized something similar to Etrian Odyssey in Q, why wouldn't they go with the Fire Emblem half, seemed like a stable investment for the 3DS crowd.
The game would probably be underrated, maybe disenfranchising fans of either series. [sp]see, SMTxFE could've been amazing considering the crossover material, but it just kind of pales on the Fire Emblem half, it's similar to how Puzzle and Dragons Z compares to Super Mario Bros edition in the west just because Z had plot, writing and was something new whereas P&D:SMB reused music, assets and had a severe difficulty curve which made SMB the weaker half of the crossover. though considering that they're separate releases in Japan, maybe GungHo played their cards right for potential brand recognition. here's to hoping that Z2 goes stateside.[/sp]
All this stupid fancy j-pop dancing idol shit with absolutely no reason or context, and yet the animation quirks with the side-characters annoy me more. I swear to god they're computer-drawn rather than CG animation like the rest, because they completely lack all of the dynamic factors the main five characters get, and outside the brief dance animation they get when they first show and Tiki's cloak animation, they're literally completely still images the rest of the video that just float around.
Why am I noticing this and why does it bother me so much that it's inconsistent
"The story focuses on a group of young people who become allied with friendly Mirages by chance, and are recruited by Fortuna Entertainment: while outwardly a talent agency, Fortuna is dedicated to preventing invasions from the Idolosphere."
This has to be painful for anyone actually looking forward to a SMT FE crossover...

It gets weirder. The antagonists are basically evil ghosts called Mirages that are stealing people's Performa, or their creativity and imagination. And the heroes contact with good Mirages who are basically the spirits of Fire Emblem characters that let the idol singer protags merge with and become them in a sense.
It's basically Magical Girls (& Guys) as a sorta-Persona game pretending to be Fire Emblem
The absolute least sensible part about this is the fact that the audience for this doesn't even exist. The game has sold embarrassingly poorly, like pathetically low by less popular Wii U standards
Apparently the gameplay is super solid but wrapped in a package that is bizarre among its home audience
This is exactly how I'd imagine the combination between medieval fantasy and demons.
what the christ
i need this more now simply because of how bad of a idea this all is.
New Final Smash, yes!
Is it weird I actually find this kinda catchy? Like I've watched this at least 4 times already and I'm about to watch it for a 5th...

It isn't really bad music by itself if you don't mind that sort of thing. It's more so the context of literally being a random music piece that they did for the sake of it as they ride into the final boss fight. No pre-empting, no cause or reason besides the thematic factors of the characters and game, they just start floating and break into a j-pop version of the Fire Emblem theme because why the fuck not
Crossovers of games are surprisingly hard to do. More often that not both styles of game come across half assed, leading to an overall lukewarm game that doesn't deliver on either front. PWxPL was guilty of this.
Where are the demons? Where are the religious undertones? Where is the Demi-fiend? Where is Flynn? Where is Ike? Where is Chrom? Where are the fantasy elements? Where are the dark themes? Where is the signature Atlus narrative?

That dosen't excuse how this game didn't even try on any front to be a crossover. All it does is copy over gameplay elements but that's about it.
I love how the game's story is basically the exact same as Persona 4 Dancing All Night's story, but with all traces of good narrative removed.

more like taki

man this could've been cool. but it isn't. it's garbage
It's basically "IDOLMASTER RPG: with some smt and fe dressing on top".
Maybe they were thinking "hey, you know what's all the rage these days? Idols. This niche game will sell better if we fill it with idols!"
It's a shame, medieval FE styled SMT/Persona would be cool. Maybe each battle could even be a small tactical fight.
And both series have the enemy recruitment thing.
All you had to do. ALL you had to do was make a game where you fight against a strange demon army with a band of medieval fantasy soldiers, with the conversation/recruitment system from SMT intact. Throw in some dungeon crawling with your army and a story involving an ongoing war between law/chaos, you have a game.
This isn't even popular in Japan where I've heard the demand for otaku-oriented media is a genuine problem, what were they thinking?

the sad thing is there's a character apparently and literally named, "Tiki Is My Waifu" who is nothing more than a single-target sexuality otaku obsessed with Tiki to highlight how creepy and obsessive waifu fascinations can be, especially notable since Tiki's a Miku Hatsune parody here
considering the intended audience for this game, that's kind of hilarious and foot-shooting at the same time

This character makes my mind melt, it's too much bizarre, there are even singing attacks in this game.
Well, at least there's still Persona 5 and Fire Emblem Fates.

what, you haven't tickled your stoned friends 8th notes before?
All this begs the question, when will smash become a musical?
