[UK] Hammond backtracked on funding after 'fury' at NHS boss's demands
Philip Hammond backtracked on plans to give the NHS more money than it eventually got in the budget after reacting with "fury" to its boss Simon Stevens's public demand for an extra £4bn next year.
The chancellor viewed Steven's plea, in which he urged ministers to deliver on leave campaigners' promise of £350m a week more for the NHS, as "very, very unhelpful" when he was facing so many pleas from other services for cash.
At the time of Stevens's speech on 8 November, Hammond had already begun discussions with the health secrtary, Jeremy Hunt, over his formal pre-budget request that the NHS in England be given a £3bn uplift for 2018-19.
But sources close to the talks say that both Hammond and Treasury officials felt that the NHS England chief executive's move meant that the chancellor could not be seen to be acceding to what they saw as "overt public blackmail".

Legit I read that as "furry" like 2-3 times and was like super confused

there it is folks, now that the tories are in power, all their wild and wacky promises are now inconveniences and they're trying to spin it as a negative for the NHS boss
"look look! he's trying to force money out of us by asking us to honour a pledge!!"
i can't believe we're going to suffer even more than one year with these incompetent fuckfaces
Let's go with this news as being completely true and not just smoke thrown by the Tories to get out of a pledge:
So the NHS were going to be given the cash break which they've needed for a long time, only to have it slashed because, reportedly, the man who makes the budget is angry at the man who heads the NHS? People's health and lives are at stake here, and they'll be affected by a spat. I had hoped to expect much better from a UK government official.
You'd expect the budget for our country should be formed based on a real analysis of the country's needs, of course with some political pressures mixed in. To think that our country's budget is affected by the chancellor's hurt feelings is incredibly concerning. I've just been hearing more and more scandal and incompetence from this government and it's really wearing on me. This is the kind of move you'd expect from Trump.
Of course, much more likely that they were never going to give this money to begin with as the NHS has been suffering with underfunding for years, why would there be a change of heart now?
What a spiteful cunt. If only extremists supposedly targeting this country could do us a favour and instead of harming everyday people trying to get by shift their targets the like of Hammond and the rest of the parasites in his government, fuck him and fuck the Tories for dragging this country into the abyss for the sake of petty personal gain. I guarantee you it's their like that have and will continue to do more damage to this country than any terrorist threat ever could.

I just like the simple maths of this.
Our population is getting:
- Older
- Fatter
- More numerous
Yet, NHS budget is increasing by 1.2% a year in real terms. This does not even cover the increase in demand or things like inflation, without even considering the fact that equipment has to be replaced and such. My hospitals outpatient department is swamped, and the fines put on the trust for failing to meet impossible targets make it yet again harder to get money. Add to that the fact that people like me are feeling so fucked off by "cost saving" measures such as the fact AHPs like radiographers and paras have had average salaries fall by around 7k since the AFC was introduced. When my base salary is 21k, a 7k loss is a lot! Add to that that all chances of overtime, bank work and such have been gutted, yet workplaces are guilt tripping people into taking more shifts.
The King's Fund time and time again tries to detail the issues, but the Tories prioritise feels over reals. Who gives a fuck about the average human? An elective hip operation is only £10,468 (source here) - can't those poor people pay for it themselves?
