One thing that REALLY pissed me off and ruined the game for me was that if you didn't read the books, you were left in the dust even WORSE. Seriously. Terrible decision on their part. With Halo 1 2 and 3, you could just play the games and ONLY the games and get the story 10000%. But for 4, you need to play all the previous games, and read the books that happened between 3 and 4, and have an extensive and comprehensive grasp on Halo's lore.
Now I'd like to say I know quite about about Halo. I've played every game on day one of their release, I've read up on the lore on various websites and such, the only thing I have done much of is read the books, I've only read Cole Protocol. And when I played Halo 4, I knew the gist of the shit going down, but FUCK, they really threw a whole bunch of background knowledge at you. My poor brother, who's been a Halo fan along side me since day 1, but his extent of Halo knowledge is just the games alone just gave up on H4 half way through, none of it made sense to him.

For now, I'm sticking with Bungie, seeing where they go with Destiny, because 343 clearly doesn't have the same touch Bungie does.

I dont wanna derail the thread but i could care less for Halo 4 story. I mean it was just boring and Cortona is just bitching at you the entire game! It should be Halo 4: Lets Do Everything Cortona Wants To Do.

As an avid fan of the halo lore, I was incredibly disappointed with Halo 4. Not only did it make references and base itself off the most boring and least interesting set of Halo books, but they didn't even reference or talk about Red team or the other Spartan II's, or any of the other halo books. How kick ass would it have been if instead of these boring as shit Spartan IV's, you had Kelly, Linda, Fred, and some Spartan III's backing you up? Instead of showing off the comradeship and team work of the Spartan II's like they do in the books, they just let John be the "HURRR LONE WULF SPAAESH MAREEN" again. 343 did a shite job and I'm predicting they'll continue to do so.
Not to mention the [sp]"press X to win" "boss fight"[/sp] at the end, or the same spartan ops levels over and over again.

That's how Cortana works. She's an AI tactician (among other things), so she makes plans and helps John execute them.
I didn't even get to the third spartan op mission, they're so boring.

They were never flat out "cool" with them, it was more an uneasy cease-fire. And ONI was actually working to sabotage the elites to ensure they wouldn't become a threat again.
