its a fuckin umbrella, what's next, wifi, gps?
Those colors are fucking dope tho, I want one.
"I need to go, my umbrella is in distress"
Looks cool though, like an oil slick type of colour pattern
The interviewer in this video is just straight up making fun of him. It is really fuckin' pretentious to be fair.
pretty expensive for something so situational
It's perfect for forgetfull people like me :v:
Not gonna lie I rarely use an umbrella but when I do I've forgotten it 100% of the time.
Pretty terrible money wise if it still breaks as easily as a normal umbrella.
Hell, I could design something leagues cheaper easily within $35 (Still on the cheap end of umbrellas) and it be leagues better without yet another proprietary app.
Parts List:

To top it all off, this is yet another Internet of Shit device because its a non-issue and probably has poor security built in. Keep it simple stupid.
Get on my level.

They probably tell you most of the cost went to R&D
Why does it look like a portable oil slick?

To be honest, if that umbrella didn't come with bluetooth features and was $80 less I would get it.
They probably tell you most of the cost went to R&D
And I spent 10 mins on my lunch break cobbling together all of the hardware and some of the software stack.

Is it really "Internet of shit" if it works entirely through bluetooth, though
I wouldn't get this product myself but if you do live in a place where you often have to use umbrellas I understand the appeal, I lost like 5 umbrellas while living in Tokyo for a year
Then again I kept it from being a big problem by just using really cheap umbrellas
that is a very pretty umbrella
How the fuck do you lose an umbrella tbh? If you need it that badly, I doubt you'll forget it.

Easy to forget them during commute.

I use Internet of Shit somewhat loosely, as it doesn't have to have internet connectivity (But most of the time when it does, it can end up like a buggy mess like the Nest Smart Home Alarms going off at random or piss poor security )
Usually if the device, as stated above, is so situational and "fixes" a usually trivial problem I count it as Internet of Shit. But of course its subjective.

If you're on a bus or a train, why would it ever leave your hands?
but is it designed against turning inside out when someone breaths at it
If you're on a bus or a train, why would it ever leave your hands?
Holding an umbrella is tiresome. It's normal to find a space in the bus, or train, and sit down, placing the umbrella against the wall, and getting up and forgetting about it when your stop comes because you're not used to carrying an umbrella around.
I think it being 89$ kind of outweighs the blutooth alerts, like I'd be damn sure I remember to take my fucking 89$ umbrella

How the hell is keeping a lightweight umbrella in your hand tiresome?

No it isn't? Most umbrellas don't even way a single kg and holding onto it isn't a hassle for nearly any person who isn't physically ill. If that is tiresome how do you carry groceries into the house?
No it isn't? Most umbrellas don't even way a single kg and holding onto it isn't a hassle for nearly any person who isn't physically ill. If that is tiresome how do you carry groceries into the house?
I know when I'm on the bus I'll set my umbrella beside me, it's not that I can't hold it, I just find it easier to set it down
Other than "why", my only questions are how far away must you be from the umbrella to receive the alert, and how instantaneous is the alert?
For example, you're sitting at the front of the bus with the umbrella, but you get off at your stop without grabbing it- when you're getting off, you'll be relatively close to it until the bus drives away.
If the distance you can be from it is too short and the alert is instant it could become an annoyance, but if the distance is too far, it'll be useless on public transportation when it gets crowded.
It doesn't seem like much of a solution, but just another inconvenience that will lose you $90.

Maybe it's just an American thing, but I've learned that on public transport one should never let go of their belongings.

you might wanna invest in some grip exercises :v:
Holding an umbrella is tiresome.
Do your arms look like twigs?
The only time holding an umbrella is tiresome is in 30mph winds. And that gets easier the heavier the umbrella.
What would be cheaper, easier, and by far more convenient is an umbrella with a buzzer on it that chimes when you're trying to look for it. Of course you'd have to keep track of the little thingy to activate the chime, but you could stick it on your keyring and never lose it.
Unless you live where it rains all the time they're easy things to lose in your house.
