Today in "Can Bungie Go Even Lower?": yes, yes they can.
fuck sony as well for being complicit in this fuckery. it feels like just yesterday there was the gigantic uproar about the targeted ads that Xbox featured on their home screen (which still exist in the latest dash, mind you, just about half as big).
people are wising up to bungie's shit so now they're trying to prey on kids that got money over the holidays who don't know any better classy
lol why do I feel like this is all papa Activisions doing? Like destiny 1 was such a mess they're trying to make as much back from 2 as they possibly can, using as many scummy practices as possible. I mean they did put a LOT of money into the destiny franchise and were expecting the next halo in terms of sales and popularity.
Seems more like Activision trying to push Destiny 2 more than bungie

Both games made bank, no doubt, but D2 is having a much more severe falloff in comparison.
Alright there's something that's been bothering me for a while now and I gotta get it off my chest. My apologies if this is considered off topic. I don't subscribe to this YongYea guy or watch every video he makes but every single time I see a video of his posted here it's just him talking about news we already know without adding anything new to the story. From my perspective he just reads internet articles on what the big current events are in the videogame world, and repeats it to the camera while adding a generic "this is bad" or "this is good" tone on top of the story. I just don't understand why this youtube channel exists, if YongYea stopped doing things nothing would change in the videogame world.

YongYea basically tries to strike a formal, while still relatable, sort of role as an informative gaming news kind of guy, and he's done this for years as someone that compiles information to present to his audiences. Considering the garbage sites like PCGamer put out, i'd rather take news in YongYea format sometimes.

Does everyone? No. Do most people? No. Do people like YongYeah provide an avenue for those that don't have the same desire to read the information first hand to have the info available to them, and also be given the links to go look at without his takes on it? Yes. That's pretty much what he does. He shares shit that not everyone is aware of. From our perspective, it can seem redundant, but we're not actually representative of much.
I can't imagine the absolute shitload of money Activision is spending that, instead of actually going to the game, is going to web, youtube, and TV advertisements every time the percentage Destiny 2 is on sale for changes. There are new advertisements daily for "Get destiny 2 for X% off or Get it for as low as $30", like they're paying someone to slightly rerender and reupload the advertisement, while also paying for them independently every time. I don't know where the money is actually going, but it's very obviously not the game

It also in turn lowered expectations for the next game in the series and so forth, meaning they couldn't just half ass the sequels and sell them on the basis of the first one being amazing. Maybe that statistically works for cod so they're taking less risk by applying it to destiny. I wouldn't be surprised if that tactic actually works for the most part.
This is more activision/Sony than bungie really Activision handles advertising and Sony has a exclusivity contract with destiny Bungie has enough to bitch about without adding this to the plate
If Destiny's starting price was far less than 60 dollars this would be a good argument. If someone sold you 2/3rds of a car, you wouldn't say it was a good car because they sold the rest of it for almost the cost of another car.
I guess that's one way to put it. Problem is that nowadays, Destiny 1 is basically seen as complete when it has its expansions; this clearly wasn't the same back at its launch, though. I guess I just forgot to account for that.

On the other, the more people we have talking about this, especially people with sizable followings, the more shoved into the spotlight this bullshit will become. EA got some pretty widespread media coverage for their bullshit in Battlefront 2, but by comparison, Destiny 2 and Activision/Bungie's determination to not own up and fix their fucking game has gone flying under the radar. Yeah their community is largely aware, and rightfully pissed off, but who knows how little of the general public is unaware of this? As someone else in the thread said, lots of kids just got money for christmas, might as well try to sucker the ones who aren't fully informed. But to reiterate my point, perhaps it is annoying that people like YongYea and Jim Sterling "beat a dead horse" so to speak, I would much rather them keep beating the drum, because it calls further attention to the god damned plague infesting gaming known as loot boxes. Not to mention the ridiculously shady and scummy practices some of these companies employ.

If someone sold you 2/3rds of a car, you wouldn't say it was a good car because they sold the rest of it for almost the cost of another car.
And 2 is like they sold you half a car which, while driving smoother, is missing a shitload of parts and improvements from the already janky previous edition, but with even less features and outright lies about where they put effort in. Then there's the kicker. They go "Hey we'll add free stuff if people pay into this thing to fund extra development" and then they put regular things you should be able to use into it, with no regular versions accessible. God I can't get over it. The Eververse and Live Team shit is an outright lie. The game launched with a paltry amount of content then claimed it was going to get funding for more free content through the Eververse. Free updates that don't exist. And never have existed.

Imo they both just kind of fall into the "say nothing in X minutes" kind of videos and they do get posted a lot.
I noticed this earlier when I turned on my PS4. Normally I would just press right and move straight to the last game I played(Yakuza 0 in this case) and I almost opened up the D2 buy menu
It's funny because I used to praise the PS4 constantly for having a clean home screen. It's a big part of why I don't like the Xbox One home screen because Xbox's just feels like a giant billboard that actually gets in the way of functionality considering that the menu is already a labyrinthy maze of shit ontop of the ads.

I don't know how anyone at Microsoft thought it was okay.

He may just be making videos based on articles but at least he's not padding them to get extra ad revenue
Was wondering why that was on my home screen yesterday. Holy shit, is the game selling THAT little?
Activision's earnings report comes out soon according to the Destiny subreddit, so we’ll know for sure soon. I have a feeling the game was probably a huge success and they are making gangbusters on the micro transactions. Although I hope I am wrong. But why else would Bungie be doubling down so hard on their anti-consumer practices?
Yong was much worse when he'd take ten minutes to fully read an entire article rather than paraphrasing it. You can watch Jim Sterling for a more comedic attack on subjects or you can watch Yong for straight, to the point news. Some of us don't browse Destiny specific news content or other subjects he covers, so it's nice to gain some insight on stuff I otherwise would not have seen.
Was wondering why that was on my home screen yesterday. Holy shit, is the game selling THAT little?
I don't think it's selling little. Destiny 1 was a hit with a lot of fans and I'm sure D2 sold a lot of copies too. I think that D2 lost its playerbase. D1 is the game that got my cousin into gaming and he was so excited for D2 and then he and his friends dropped it a month after launch to play Fortnite. I don't even see my friends who were really into D1 talking about D2

I personally enjoy Jim's schtick, but for the people that don't it's nice to have a more straight-man option. At the end of the day, more people talking about this is good.
Seems more like Activision trying to push Destiny 2 more than bungie
Seems more like Activision trying to outdo EA for worst publisher and actions instead
Seems more like Activision trying to outdo EA for worst publisher and actions instead
They've already been going at it for least half a decade, maybe even a whole. Meanwhile Ubisoft have occasional bouts of greed that's preceded and followed by mere retardation in the shape of franchise oversaturation.

Honestly, I really like his format and the research he does, sure these videos are not that in-depth but for instance he has a video about CD Projekt Red which included a lot of research. Also he presents it in a more or less unbiased and factual manner without inserting ridiculous opinions into it like some other content creators do.
Just got home and saw this on my screen. Yes Sony, please remind me that I've yet to even play it.
