It's weird to me personally that you posted this now after I spent half an hour earlier reading up on this after vaguely remembering someone say it was a good read in the comments for that Steam game that piggybacks off of this story. It's a very interesting story.
Doesn't really seem that weird, I think it hit the nail on the head. Could also be carbon monoxide poisoning causing them to be confused. My initial guess, however, would be that they simply succumbed to hypothermia. Supposedly hypothermia induces severe confusion, which leads to poor judgement and a downward spiral of events. You can imagine drunk hikers, slowly freezing to death, stumbling around in a blizzard. Of course they'll do irrational things like climb trees, or remove items of clothing. And I think the radiation and UFO was explained, not really a mystery there.

Take off all that heavy, sweaty hiking gear for the night. Suddenly your tent fills with flames and smoke, the last thing on your mind is "Hey better grab my gear!" Great video, really love these mysteries, especially when they actually have a believable ending.
I was literally spooked-out until the explanation, which makes sense and makes everything seem less spooky.
Explanation seems like it could fit perfectly. Still could be aliens :tinfoil:
