Well not they but someone...
Ten years later...
I don't think the people rating friendly and winner have seen the video from beginning to end yet.
I have witnessed the rise...and fall, of a story, an engine, and a developer.
His defeat at the end lol
It's [sp]fake. But damn did he put a lot of effort in.[/sp]
"i just want to play half life 2"

can you imgaine the anger and frustration of having to go through all that to be met with the Steam Client install window?
I assembled my first computer just a couple of months before this video was recorded, brings back a lot of memories.
His confusion when it asks him to install Steam first reminds me of my own reaction, I just wanted to play Half-Life, not whatever the fuck this was. Then it had to download some updates which sucked absolute ass on a dial-up connection, and I had to go to bed before it had finished. Pretty sure I laid awake in bed pretty much all night, my 10 year old mind flooded with excitement for what was awaiting me in the morning, and it was glorious
Edit: Oh, it's actually recorded recently. I had the exact same problem with the account creation, though, because I didn't even realize it was an online thing at first

Imagine? I lived that nightmare man
Pretty easy to know it's fake off of him being bewildered by Steam after mentioning CS 1.6 earlier on.
You can clearly see a wifi card with a big antenna sticking out the back of his machine when he takes the cover of his machine off :v:
Also, around the 15:05 mark he pulls up a folder of shortcuts that contains google chrome.
Imagine? I lived that nightmare man
Yeah man I spent hours trying to get the game to run without having to install steam.
If anyone is wondering it IS fake. He put this in the description of the video:

the winner's prolly just because of how fucking authentic it looks, even the quality of the VCR is mostly well recreated

just a heads up :)
Even with video little bit out of focus you can still see that the hl2 box is bent and that shirt has a lot of wear.
I remember being a kid and a good while after installing Steam and HL2, pestering my dad to buy me the Valve Complete Pack
You can tell the second he opens up the desktop in windows explorer and you see a chrome shortcut that it's a fake regardless of the description
but props to the effort tho
did you have fun going to the trouble of making a fake reply quote? im sorry if you are mad buddy, but thats not the way to fix it
yeah the two seconds it took to do that sure were a lot of trouble
All that work just to be exposed by Google.
I could tell it was fake as soon as he opened the collector's edition. All the cardboard was bent and that shirt was worn the hell out.
I actually still wear that shirt and mine looks a lot better than his. :v:
The beginning of the end for Valve's consumer friendliness. As someone who was too young to play Half Life when the second came out I can feel sympathy for people who went through this and have had to suffer and watch as more and more games and companies require internet access to install or even play a game.
"they even took the time and they remade the entire half-life" lmao
They did didn't they?
Unless the joke is that it wasn't a difficult port at all
