GTA3, VC, and SA can all be tremendous pain to work with for speed runners. Runners for years build up resiustance to the sheer forms of failure, and even then, the game will throw things never seen before.
If you are interested in this, user JOSHIMUZ has been throwing his head at the game for years, and has in my opinion the best edited and the most informative of these kinds of events and stream highlights.

They're hell for just about anyone.
People complain about how the N.sane trilogy is the Dark Souls of platforms, but they probably don't remember the 3D GTA era, where you were close to finishing a mission, and for no reason whatsoever, a car suddenly ran you over, coming out of nowhere.
And that was just one of many different things that could happen to you.
I remember finishing a really hard mission, stealing a car to go home and save, and getting wanted by the police to a point where it escalated into a pursuit against the SWAT that almost always ended in me dying from an army of angry cops. This also happened way too many times.
They're still dear to my heart though.
The later missions in the 3D GTA era were tough as nails.
That mission in III where you had to blow up the plane and steal the money beat me and my dad, we couldn't finish the game when we got to that part.
