Swedes do not tip.
I've always heard black people tip the worst but I don't know any Swedish people so I wouldn't know.
we don't really have tipping in scandinavia.
Joe's rockin that goatee
we don't really have tipping in scandinavia.
They find it offensive if you tip in Japan I think, I don't think anyone should be forced to tip too, at least in the UK and Australia where we have minimum wages.
what's the deal with tipping in america? it rarely happens in australia, but I know it's like absolutely expected in the US are people like waitresses and concierges on really shitty pay?

depends on their minimum wage, it's usually just a courtesy thing
Yeah, since they're usually paid below minimum for some arcane reason.
Did a bit of digging, the federal minimum wage is 7.25 dollars. That's a pathetically low amount. How does one live off that? Also, apparently If your employed by a company that takes tips you only have make up to 7.25 dollars, the employer isn't obliged to let you have any of your tips, just has to make up the difference. What the hell?
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires payment of at least the federal minimum wage to covered, nonexempt employees. An employer of a tipped employee is only required to pay $2.13 an hour in direct wages if that amount plus the tips received equals at least the federal minimum wage, the employee retains all tips and the employee customarily and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips. If an employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference.
For us British people, the US federal minimum wage is £4.33. I had to live for 6 months of 5 pounds an hour on a part time job. Even though i was not paying rent (a friend let me stay at his) It was still really difficult to live off. I don't know how i would do on 4 pounds an hour...
The federal minimum wage provisions for covered, nonexempt employees are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 included phased increases to the federal minimum wage. For work performed prior to July 24, 2007, the federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. For work performed from July 24, 2007 to July 23, 2008, the federal minimum wage is $5.85 per hour. For work performed from July 24, 2008 to July 23, 2009, the federal minimum wage is $6.55 per hour. For work performed on or after July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
I can understand why they kind of expect tips in the US if this is the case.
I can't wait for the next one.
Wait you guys live off weight gain? How does that work? Black midget was the best part.
Pounds Sterling* :v:
I've always heard black people tip the worst but I don't know any Swedish people so I wouldn't know.
I think waiting at chilis made my older sister slightly racist :v: She always comes with stories about how she keeps getting the ghettoest tables and doesn't get hardly any tip from them. And in america, servers (vast majority) get paid under minimum wage. That's why it's highly frowned upon if you don't tip. But that's just the dumbass US minimum wage system. I cannot speak for other areas.
"Joe goes to Japan" is gonna be good
Some waiters only make 2 bucks an hour, less than a third of minimum wage. I mean you can't effectively live on minimum wage, it's cruel and unusual to give people even less. [editline]18th October 2012[/editline] Not to mention they have a stressful job and are usually treated like worthless slaves. If I happen to be at a restaurant with $10 extra cash on me, it all goes in the tip, I'm even talking just cheap chain places(Buffalo Wild Wings). Some places(in South America I believe) work backwards. You put your tip on a special holding display, and if the servers want it they come serve you. My old history teacher sat a restaurant there for an hour and no one took his order, he finally caught on to what people were doing. The people there were really poor and love US dollars, even one buck will get you amazing service. He said he put a 20 in to see what would happen. Every single server dropped what they were doing and went to his table.
In my experience, I've never met anyone who had to live off of their waitress/waiter/busboy job. It's a part time job for most people. I'm sure there are some full time waiters but really, the majority are part time, hence the shitty pay, hence the tips.
I'm even talking just cheap chain places(Buffalo Wild Wings).
Heh. Also a lot of you are blowing things a little out of proportion here. I've done my fair share of minimum wage work and it's not THAT terrible. I worked at a grocery store so I didn't receive tips, but working 40 hours a week at about $8.50 and hour (cali minimum wage) gives you an okay chunk of change. You won't be living large but you can survive, even if you can't afford 'cheap' food like BWW.
Some guy is wearing a Fremantle Dockers jacket, an AFL team in Perth, Australia. Represent! I assume this video isn't done in Australia because no one tips here.
I live in Sweden and I always tip at least 10%
As a Finn, I find this very offensive and racist :(
It's worth noting, in the US at least, your employee must make up the difference between what you made and what you would have made at standard minimum wage should you happen to make less. If you suck and get no tips, you'll still make minimum. Not saying that's a lot, but it's better than $2/hr.
I wish tipping was genuine instead, so you tip if you're really satisfied. I hate how it's just expected.
Wait you guys live off weight gain? How does that work?
You guys want to lose money?
"Joe goes to Japan" is gonna be good
when is that coming by the way . ?
I tend to tip bartenders when I'm drunk. Like, I pay for a 3€ drink with a 10€ bill, I tell them to "Keep the change" and then regret it in the morning. The bartenders are usually like "What the shit? What does 'keep the change' mean?" due to Finland.
